The Chargers were able to handle the Chiefs on Sunday despite having just three healthy cornerbacks, but it seems they’d like to be a little deeper at the spot going forward.

The agent for free agent cornerback Chris Carr told Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune that his client will be signing with the Chargers this week. Carr himself sent out a tweet on Monday saying that he was San Diego-bound, although there’s been no word from the team as yet. Carr visited with the team last month and visited with the Jets last week after they lost Darrelle Revis.

Shareece Wright has missed the last three games with a sprained ankle, leaving the Chargers thin at the position. Carr was cut by the Vikings at the end of training camp and cut by the Ravens earlier in the offseason one year after signing a multiyear deal after a strong 2010 season. Carr was hurt for most of the 2011 season, though, and the Ravens decided to move forward without him.

Carr’s signing hasn’t gone down yet so we don’t know the corresponding move to clear space for him on the roster. Norv Turner had a downcast report on kicker Nate Kaeding’s status on Monday, saying that he didn’t anticipate Kaeding being well enough to kick for a while, so that could prove to be where the Chargers make space for Carr.
