Rolle can’t run for sh¡t downfield for kickoff coverage, Casey Matthews, as much as he sucks, can. That’s why Rolle is gone and Matthews isn’t.

Brian Rolle had the potential to be a blue collar, peoples’ champ kind of player. I was disappointed to see him cut. Should have cut that long-haired kid whose brother plays for the Packers.

eepobee, I believe the Atlanta Falcons are coming off a bye too, which makes it 3 straight, 4 straight against teams with extra time if you include the Giants coming off a Thursday game.

Stupid move by the Eagles.
They should worry less about their environmental/globUll “warming” awareness bs campaign, and more about keeping the right players.

although Andy Reid has never lost after a bye, Adam Caplan pointed out on philadelphiaeagles.com that not all teams play well after a bye week, especially earlier in the season. So maybe it’s not as much of a disadvantage as it seems like.

i concur phillyphann. it isn’t actually 3 byes, it’s a Thursday night game (giants) and then 2 teams coming off byes (steelers & lions). but 3 straight games where the opponents get extra time to prepare is ridiculous. there are also 2 more games (week 11 vs. redskins and week 13 vs. dallas) where their opponents get extra time to prepare (redskins off bye and dallas off thursday game). I’m going to investigate the rest of the league to see if this is as imbalanced as it looks.

A 6th round pick? One could argue that the Eagles have muffed picks rounds 1-3 in the last 5 years, but they’ve actually done pretty well in the later rounds.

@phillyinmiami – Exactly. We can’t block at all on special teams. Our special teams has been a disaster so far this season. Our kicker can’t kick the ball out of the endzone and our guys can’t tackle. We are constantly starting at our ten, rather then having short fields to work with. Our special teams almost cost us the NY game. We need to get this fixed asap.

I guess when the Eagles play the Lions we should see a lot of long returns.

I asked that same question. But even so, the returner should be tackled inside the 25 yard line. Sunday night’s ST performance was just pathetic.

Maybe April didn’t get the guys he wanted when the cuts were made. Obviously some Eagles were not doing their jobs on Sunday night. Every kick-off looked the same. They couldn’t adjust. Why can’t Alex Henry boot them out of the end zone like so many other kickers?

I’m starting to think the same thing, laeaglefan. When April came in, he was touted as one of the best ST guys in the league, and a coup for the Birds. Not only are our kick coverages ridiculous, but none of the return guys we keep drafting/signing can get anything going — not because they aren’t good, but because no sooner do they catch the ball than they’re being tackled. Say what you want about Desean’s lack of focus last year, but his lack of great returns was a direct result of poor ST schemes and blocking. Right now, only the Lions are standing in the way of the Eagles being the worst ST unit in the league…

A little disappointing. I thought Brian Rolle was the team’s best Linebacker last year.

And I get that the Special Teams needs to improve, but I would have rather cut Chris Polk, Casey Matthews or David Sims.

I really don’t get why this team even has four Running Backs.

It will take more than just cutting Rolle to fix the problem on Special Teams. Bobby April is the one who should go, since he’s the one responsible for teaching these guys how to tackle and get in the right position to make plays.
