NFL may need to move Raiders-Jaguars game on Oct. 21

There’s only one stadium still in use by teams from both Major League Baseball and the National Football League, but one is all you need to create a scheduling problem.

The league could be dealing with one in a couple of weeks. Should the Oakland A’s beat the Rangers to win the American League West on Wednesday and wind up in the American League Championship Series as the higher seed, they will be playing a home game at the O.co Coliseum on Sunday, October 21st. That’s the same day that the Raiders are scheduled to host the Jaguars, which would necessitate a change.

Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com reports that the league will “monitor the situation” as it unfolds, although there’s no word on how far in advance the league would need to make a decision about moving the game. The likeliest possibility would seem to be pushing it back a day and playing two Monday night games on Oct. 22, when the Lions and Bears are already scheduled to face off. It would be a lot of action on the field in a short period of time, but it is a solution the league has used when forced to move games in the past.

Whatever the time frame, a decision certainly doesn’t need to be made before seeing whether the A’s can finish off their unexpected run at a division title on Wednesday afternoon.
