APThe contract year of Rams receiver Danny Amendola has been abruptly interrupted by an injury that will knock him out of action for several weeks.
Per a team source, Amendola has a broken collarbone.
The injury came in the first half of Thursday night’s game, as Amendola dove in an effort to catch a third-down pass. His angry reaction as he headed to the locker room, including the slamming of his helmet and the shouting of the “F” word hinted that it wasn’t a minor injury.
Amendola missed 15 games last year with a dislocated elbow. He has 32 catches for 395 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
UPDATE 9:18 a.m. ET October 5: After the game, conflicting accounts emerged regarding the initial diagnosis. Here’s our new article that tries to sort it all out.

I threw my Rams chip and dip helmet when I heard.
Terrible news. He is fun to watch and has worked hard to establish himself as a good NFL receiver. I hope he stays healthy because he could have a good career if he does.
Poor guy.
but at least he will be playing for the Patriots in 2013
Kevin Kolb is wishing for a broken collarbone so he doesn’t have to go back into the game.
Maybe Rolando McClain needs to slam him again so he doesn’t curse on national TV.
Terrible news get well soon
I put him in today on my fantasy team so this just makes sense.
good.!!!!!!!
If you have the energy and pain tolerance to bang your head against the wall, then throw your helmet against another wall, then you can pick up your own damn helmet and patch the hole you left!
I just traded for this guy yesterday in my league. Worst part is I got him from the guy I’m playin this week!
@beavertonsteve….what kinda of chips?
Tough break for Amendola & Rams.
Bigger story: in 6 drives to red zone for Kolb, 8 sacks & 0 TD.
The F word?…..fungdungle
Sorry Rams fans, I gave him the kiss of death apparently by starting him on my fantasy team for the first time this week. Figures….
He made a highlight reel catch on the first drive. Get well soon Eric. Hope to see more great plays soon.
Get well soon Danny . I apologize for messing up your name.
I keep thinking his last name is Areola.
Make that 9 sacks (and a fumble) for Kolb.
Now what Arizona?
out several weeks? that means he will be back this season…which is good news…danny is exciting to watch and this dude catches everything…get well soon brother.
No estimate on how long he’ll be out? One would think that if football gossip/news was someone’s job they would include the typical time this injury takes to heal. That’s kind of an important part to this story, right?
Terrible news for this guy who is an outstanding receiver.
Killing my fantasy team 2 years in a row.
Bad luck for him! Gutsy player,,,wish he was still a Cowboy.
Austin Amendola?? Or is it Danny Collie???
Already pre-ordered my Plaxico Rams jersey.
Some might see his reaction and think less of him, but I see it as more of a tribute to that inner warrior he has.
So frustrating to see a young, budding talent who could rival Wes Welkers productivity get hurt so often.
Can’t blame the guy at all for being massively frustrated, and I respect him for keeping his composure ON the field and ON the sidelines. Not sure I agree with the cameras following him into the locker room area, but cest la vie.
God Speed Amendola!
Bring in T.O! Bradford needs him!
I don’t wish injury on anyone but Jeff Fisher’s team is dirty and what goes around comes around. Karma.
Damn, another bad break for Danny (no pun intended). Even as a Seahawks fan I have alot of respect for this guy. Good player and a good person, I hope he gets healthy and gets back on the field soon.
I can’t wait for Gruden to pontificate about being Amendola’s inability to stay healthy on MNF.
Ahh, he only needs one arm to catch anyways!
“His angry reaction as he headed to the locker room, including the slamming of his helmet and the shouting of the “F” word hinted that it wasn’t a minor injury.”
Could you imagine if Cutler did this? He would be an immature baby.
But if he didn’t do this, he wouldn’t care and lacks passion.
It’s sad. Could he possibly be the best player left from that Dallas Cowboys hardknocks?
Don’t build your passing game around 5 foot white guys.
He can’t stay healthy. Why do you think the Steelers passed on him in the draft?
“Poor guy.
but at least he will be playing for the Patriots in 2013″
Amendola is injury prone but a great player with honor and integrity. He would never play for cheaters. Just can’t see him going to the Patriots***.
This guy gives an all-out effort each week..its too bad he has a POS of a quarterback thats so inaccuarate, that he puts him in these high-risk play situations every week..the pass before that was a pass leading him right into a linebacker..
If the pass was on target he wouldnt have had to dive for this ball in the first place..
they say bradford lacks weapons, but bradford is his own worst enemy because hes constantly knocking out his own best weapons
Well @ least he will be back for the playoffs…wait…he plays for the Rams. Nevermind.
This is what happens when you target a guy 857 times every week. Something’s going to happen eventually.
This guy plays with heart and leaves it all on the field. Any team would be lucky to have a guy like this on his roster. Jerry Jones was his typical shortsighted self when he cut him. I wish him all the best.
Danny was the coolest storyline during the Cowboys hardknocks season. I have been a fan of his ever since. It is fun to watch him, because he has the intensity you wish all the players on your team had. Get well soon man, see you in six to eight weeks.
P.S. I bet you that the crypt keeper AKA Jerry Jones would love to have that practice squad decision back.
Guess Amendola ain’t built “Ram Tough”
That guy is made of glass.
Of course he’s injured. Just like everyone else in this thread I started him this week.
