as a rams fan I hate to see him go but I always said I felt bad for the guy because he played for us and our piss poor o line all these years. with a great team, I see him making play offs. no matter where he goes he will always be remembered as a Ram! good luck to you Stephen

Someone above did say it, but I only noticed it once. TONS of players are “allowed to void their contracts” each year. It’s called being cut. It’s just odd that they announced it mid-season.
So now I want to see how much he plays tonight.
Is a deal coming?

Nice way for the Rams to get out of a bad contract with a RB the wont ever be healthy for a full season again and make it look like they’re giving Jackson what he wanted. Fisher knows you don’t pay RB that type of money. Besides they got a lot of picks the next couple of years from my Redskins. When talking about RB younger is always better.

It’s naive and just silly to think the Rams are doing this as a favor to the guy so he can play for a contender before he retires.

Hmm seems like an opportunity for any smart team that needs a bruiser runner because as we’ve seen in the past that leads teams to victory. Teams that run the ball well enough that is. But maybe he’s calling it quits after close to 9 years of taking and giving in his case a beating.

I’m sure the Rams three rookie RBs also had an impact on this decision as well. I have a feeling that next year they will go with a rotation of Richardson and Ganaway on early downs with Pead taking passing down duty and returning kicks. This appears to be the way most teams are going. It’s cheaper and you aren’t left scrambling every time your workhorse suffers a groin pull.

for this guy to perform as well as he has for the last 7 years is pretty remarkable. he’s been one of the best all-around RB’s in football history, and i’m going to pull for him to get a legit run at a super bowl.

Jackson is probably nearly used up. He has 300 more career carries than Willis McGahee, who is second among active players.

Why? They have 2 young RBs who are doing well. Not the same as when they brought Cory Dillon in (and not as good).

I’m one of those who believe this is not about a payday, this is opportunity to play in the playoffs. He is one of the more talented backs in the league and will finally have the opportunity to experience the playoff lifestyle.

Running backs are slowly becoming extinct. Especially the big bruising backs. You need speed and to be able to catch the ball out of the backfield. That and the rise of the passing game are making runningbacks expendable. They’re only good for to create another threat to keep a QB from throwing the ball 60 times per game, create shorter down and distance, run the clock out, and goal line.

The days as the focal point of the offense are about gone. Except in San Fran. But, who knows how long that will last.
