The Cowboys were a .500 team last year in Jason Garrett’s first season as head coach, and they’re 2-2 this year. That isn’t the record of a great coach.
But Cowboys tight end Jason Witten says Garrett is better than his record suggests.
“Jason’s been great,” Witten said, via the Dallas Morning News. “The wins haven’t shown it but Jason is a great coach. I can’t speak more highly about any coach I’ve had. He does a tremendous job of laying it out there and giving you the game plan to go succeed with the adjustments and all that goes in. He’s doing a phenomenal job. We just got to play better.”
But another former Cowboys head coach used to say that you’re as good a coach as your record says you are, and Garrett’s record says he’s a mediocre head coach. And if the Cowboys don’t play better, Jerry Jones may not be willing to give Garrett another year to prove he’s a great coach.
