Giants rule out four more players for Sunday

DeAngelo Williams, Rocky Bernard AP

The Giants already told us that wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is going to miss Sunday’s game against the Browns and now they’ve given word that he’s going to have plenty of company on the sideline.

Friday’s injury report lists four other Giants as out for Week Five. Defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, safety Kenny Phillips, cornerback Jayron Hosley and wide receiver Ramses Barden will all miss the game. Linebacker Keith Rivers and tackle David Diehl, both of whom missed last week’s loss to the Eagles, are listed as doubtful.

Bernard has a quadriceps injury and his absence leaves the team with Linval Joseph, Marvin Austin and Markus Kuhn in the middle of the line. We could also see more of Jason Pierre-Paul inside, a look they usually feature on passing downs.

Phillips’ absence was expected after he sprained his MCL against the Eagles and Hosley’s is no surprise after he missed that game with a hamstring injury. That means it is another shorthanded day for a Giants secondary that’s all to used to such a state of affairs. Barden will miss the game with a concussion suffered late in last week’s loss. Domenik Hixon and rookie Rueben Randle will join Victor Cruz as Eli Manning’s targets at receiver.

The Giants have long subscribed to the “Next Man Up” theory espoused by coach Tom Coughlin. If they keep going at this rate, they’re going to run out of next men to move up, though.

Is Keith Rivers ever healthy? I would love to see what he could actually do but the guy is never healthy enough to stay on the field.

Never seen a team so snakebit by injuries as the Giants. At this point, it won’t even be considered an upset if the Browns win.

This could actually be a blessing in disguise for the Giants’ beleaguered pass rush. If it forces JPP inside, we could see Kiwi return to edge rushing which Giants’ fans have been dying to see for some time now.

Let the players rest for the brutal part of the schedule… need some healthy bodies for the game against the 49ers next weekend.

You can credit Kenny Philips’ injury to LeSean McCoy juking him right out of his jock!

Damn this team is snake bitten with injuries. NOt surprised about injury prone Nicks but this team is just injury and yet this team IMO still remains one of the top 10 teams in the league.

Trust me, these guys are resting up for the Niners game next Sunday because they know it will be a blood bath between the two teams.
If the Giants limp off into Candlestick with Cruz and a rookie wideout , you might as well sign Eli Manning’s death certificate because he will get killed by the defense…So watch how the injury report changes next week…….

Yeah just like he got killed in the NFC Championship game on the way to his second SB MVP.

The Giants have an Elite QB and the niners have a guy that the Giants would have holding a clip board oh never mind we have a better guy for that David Carr.
