Mike Vick apparently owns a dog again

New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

Eagles quarterback Mike Vick has spoken in the past about his desire to once again own a dog.  Apparently, he now does.

Either that or someone in his house has developed a taste for dog food.

Courtesy of the folks at CrossingBroad.com, Vick tweeted a photo of himself and his daughter working at a table in their home, with Vick studying his iPad playbook and Vick’s daughter doing homework.  On the table is an open box of Milk Bone dog biscuits.

Per CrossingBroad.com, Vick then deleted the photo and replaced it with another one, with the dog treats out of the shot.

Though Vick has suggested in the past that the terms of his probation prevent him from ever owning a dog again, the prohibition expired when his probation ended.  And he seemed intent on getting a dog during a Piers Morgan interview in July.

So why hide the fact that he has a dog?

Maybe he simply wanted to avoid the questions that inevitably would come from making it known that the man who went to prison for dogfighting and who admitted to killing multiple underperforming dogs in cold blood once again owns a dog.  Of course, he’s now likely destined to get those questions, given the tweeted-and-deleted photo containing a Milk Bone box.

don’t see why he should ever have the right to own a dog again….

  2. kicksave1980 says: Oct 5, 2012 7:39 PM

I do believe that people can change and be rehabilitated, but I don’t think he should ever be allowed to own an animal again. Just my opinion, but to have a large scale operation such as the one he had…and to see the horrors of dogfighting…he was only sorry because he got caught and the negative public reaction.

  3. heathater4lifeson says: Oct 5, 2012 7:39 PM

For all the animal lovers who say mike Vick shouldn’t be allowed to own a dog, he should. No one is dumb enough to do something like Vick did over again. Pretty sure he is giving an animal a safe home.

Absolute Disgust!! This is sickening, why not just release a rapist into a school zone? Terrible to see such a thing happen again. This guys entire family is trash and it is a shame to see this. For any idiot who just wants to yell racism. You’re ignorant, this should not happen no matter who you are. Absolute disgust. What if someone killed your father then adopted your child after getting out of jail. This is sickening!

  6. jeffrey19 says: Oct 5, 2012 7:43 PM

I but people are gonna give this grief for getting even though he’s been turning his life around and is speaking out against animal abuse.

No story here. I’m a life long falcons fan who feels like he cheated the city out of a possible Super Bowl by not studying like he should have while he was here. He has surly learned from his mistakes and deserves the chance to love and care for a dog. Although its really silly to post and then delete the photo

I don’t care about this or the dogfighting. The NFL covered up the fact that he ran an interstate racketeering ring! He should be banned from life from the NFL for gambling!

  10. dd393 says: Oct 5, 2012 7:59 PM

Maybe all he can afford to eat is dog food after paying his fines and creditors.

Obama , has eaten dog meat , or so he said , and
    he owns a dog !

  12. raiderinva says: Oct 5, 2012 8:03 PM

    I am sorry….

But I believe that Vick was tried before a jury of his peers. He was convicted of financing the dog fighting ring. He then served his sentence, and after probation, has served in full.

Mike has also done more to repent, show remorse, and educate others on animal cruelty then 95% of the readers here.

Good for you Mike. I just hope that dog never bites anyone.

  13. coltzfan166 says: Oct 5, 2012 8:08 PM

  15. annes22 says: Oct 5, 2012 8:20 PM

That’s terrible if he does. Once a dog killer he should never have anything to do with them. No dog deserves to spend it’s life with a murderer like Michael Vick. I don’t care if he’s through his probation, at the end of it he should never be allowed to own one. He’s lucky he’s even on a football field. He didn’t get long enough in jail. Dog lovers will never forget his behavior. Cruelty at it’s worse.

  16. nfceastisbeast says: Oct 5, 2012 8:20 PM

Christ, leave the guy alone. He has turned his life around and contniues to pay back all of his creditors. He is on the right path to redemption. He can’t even have a pet dog for his children? I believe he has put this part of his life in the past….it’s time you all did as well.

  18. seahawks4alltime says: Oct 5, 2012 8:33 PM

    Frogburger,

It’s disgusting that you would insult his family. You don’t know them. You have know insight into the family. Say what you want about what you think you know about Vick himself, but you should be ashamed for saying that his family is trash.

  19. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Oct 5, 2012 8:33 PM

I was absolutely appalled to learn of Michael Vick’s abominable mistreatment of dogs. Any other real dog lover would be furious.

But, the story didn’t end there. Vick went far ABOVE and BEYOND what was required of him following his sentencing.

What Vick DID was unimaginably sad — it will never make right what those dogs suffered and died through. But.

What Vick DID afterwards and since has been very very VERY positive. By all accounts, Vick went the extra mile in every form and fashion — and my respect has been restored, and I wish him well.

Vick truly seems like a completely different person, a story of redemption and someone who continues to champion the causes of eliminating dog-fighting and other forms of animal cruelty.

  20. desertlambs says: Oct 5, 2012 8:33 PM

Frogburger….soooo, you are comparing letting Vick own a dog to “release a rapist into a school zone.” Really? Him or one of his family, perhaps his little girl owning a dog and its on the same level as child rape? Wow, you really don’t like Vick or think child rape is only worth a couple of years in jail. Maybe his little girl wanted a yorkie. who cares, I doubt he is fighting the dog.

  21. burm61 says: Oct 5, 2012 8:39 PM

Ben Roethlisberger can have a wife so Vick can own a dog. Done deal.

  22. frogburger says: Oct 5, 2012 8:48 PM

    @seahawks for all time.

Killing dogs is trash, his brother sleeping with minors is trash, and generally it takes trash to raise trash.

Maybe calling them all trash was a bit harsh and an unfair judgement. But all him and his brother seem to do off the field equates to trash. But you are I right I do not know them and maybe some words are over the edge. But this guy was let off the hook large, due to being a marketing play for the NFL. No excuses for what he did, Would you say it the dog was trash if the dog did what Vick did to the dogs family to Vick’s family?

Either way there is a serious societal flaw, when a guy best let off a racketeering charge because idiots pay to see him. He may be exciting to watch but “appears” to be a piece of trash

  23. blackandbluedivision says: Oct 5, 2012 8:48 PM

Punish Vick not his kids. Imagine what they have to go through for the rest of their lives. Have a heart.

  24. Simon says: Oct 5, 2012 8:50 PM

I’m not a Vick fan and I don’t approve of his past, but he paid his debt to society and he is allowed to own a dog. Give the man a chance to prove he’s changed.

If I’m not mistaken, he made a statement he would like to get one for his kids. Must they pay for his sins too?

  25. nfceastfan says: Oct 5, 2012 8:54 PM

It’s not about him. It’s about his kids, and they have every right to have an animal whether it be a dog, cat, pig or goat. The fact that he’s the father and makes as much money as he does I would say that animal is treated better than the ones you owe. He never should have been restricted unless they were breeds that people train to kill. Shame on those who feel a dog is better off in the SPCA where he’ll be put to sleep instead of living a life of luxury in his home

  26. skulman7 says: Oct 5, 2012 8:59 PM

I don’t get the “he’s only sorry because he got caught” routine. How would any of us know that? Based off your perception of him in his interviews? That’s enough to justify that he isn’t truly sorry?

Vick has done everything right and more since he’s been out of prison. He served his punishment and now is a prominent voice speaking out against dog fighting and the path he went down in his past. The point of the prison system is to punish and rehabilitate criminals back into society (or be kept there for serious crimes). I understand why people are skeptical, but he’s earned the right of a 2nd chance.

  27. patyofeet says: Oct 5, 2012 9:04 PM

  38. bigbwoy000 says: Oct 5, 2012 9:40 PM

Did Mike Vick kill animals for food? To the people that want to say that people in other countries eat dog, if that’s what they eat so be it. But Mike Vick didn’t kill animals for food people & we all know that.

What outrages people & is the hard part is that Mike Vick bought a property to intentionally & systematically take animals that were suffering & crying in pain & for some sort of inner sick satisfaction, torture them in some of the most inhuman ways possible. He would take them & slam them into the ground over & over & over as they howled in pain. He took crying bleeding animals & attached electrodes to them, threw them into pits of water & electrocuted them as they screamed in pain.

He tortured for fun, for his personal entertainment. He took already beat up animals & inflicted more pain with his own bare hands because it amused him. Mike Vick did this multiple times a week for six years. SIX YEARS.

He took people’s pets, taped their mouths shut & threw them into a fighting ring to enjoy watching helpless defenseless creatures get ripped apart by killers. Once again for his personal amusement.

When you see how deep his intentional & sadistic torture goes, are you really surprised that people would be concerned that a known animal abuser of the absolute worst kind should have a dog?

Any scrutiny Mike Vick gets for owning that animal, he deserves. Sometimes kids have to be told no. Sorry kids, daddy did bad things, he didn’t know any better (see if they believe that) & because of that, we can’t have an animal. Even Mike Vicks kids…

I do not condone his actions but it is complete nonsense to claim killing a dog is the same as killing a human. Furthermore, your example assumes that Vick’s new dog is the offspring of one of those he previously owned. Talk about making assumptions. Heres 1 vote to permanently ban frogburger.

  44. qbofthenever says: Oct 5, 2012 9:46 PM

Vick paid for his mistakes and then some. His actions, while reprehensible, have ultimately led to greater awareness of the inhumanity of animal cruelty. And also, why should his daughter not be allowed the joy of a childhood dog? He can have the dog…..I just wish he was better at football.

I’m a dog lover and I don’t really have a problem with Vick owning a dog. Obviously I have a huge problem with what he did, and can never truly respect him as a person and by extension as a player ever again. However, I certainly don’t think dog fighting is an addiction, and I agree with the idea that Vick isn’t stupid enough to be caught anywhere near a dog fighting operation again. Even people with history of child abuse have been forgiven and allowed to see their kids again, why shouldn’t Vick be able to show he has changed?

  57. epatxaco8617 says: Oct 5, 2012 10:06 PM

As [the little red dog] lay on the ground fighting for air, Quanis Phillips grabbed its front legs and Michael Vick grabbed its hind legs. They swung the dog over their head like a jump rope then slammed it to the ground. The first impact didn’t kill it. So Phillips and Vick slammed it again. The two men kept at it, alternating back and forth, pounding the creature against the ground, until at last, the little red dog was dead.

You don’t like this?? Make you uncomfortable?? TOO BAD. The “little red dog” had no way to turn away, to ignore it, to pretend it wasn’t happening.
Taken from “The Lost Dogs” It shines more light on what a truly horrible human being he is!!!

To all the perfect, faultless, arrogant haters. If you received a speeding,
parking, or traffic citation this week.
You should not be allowed to own or operate an automobile ever again!!
    ___________________________________
If we had to be perfect , faultless and arrogant to have opinions on criminals then there would be no “trials of our peers” in this country. There’d be a “judge robot “passing sentences on criminals.
    Silly comparison you made too.

It makes me laugh when people say “don’t judge/discriminate” and the like. We judge and discriminate about people every single day of our lives or we couldn’t pick our friends, whom to marry, whom to hire etc. Instead of making spurious arguments, you people who love Vick would do better simply to say “I don’t care what horrible things he’s done (or if you are in real denial, “has been accused of doing”), I love the guy”. At least that is honest.

If he’s met his standards of probation, I don’t have a huge problem with his having a dog. That said, sometimes just because one has the right to do something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. It may be a better lesson for his kids if he tells them why Daddy feels that it’s not a good idea to have a dog. He doesn’t have to get into specifics when they are young, he can just say, “Daddy made some bad decisions in the past and it’s not best to have a dog right now. How about we pick out another pet for you?” It will drive home choices & consequences, a lesson no child above toddler age is too young to learn.

    Old news.

He got the dog last year, with the blessing of the ASPCA.

His daughter wanted a dog and he made the request with the consent of the Commish.

@frogburger and anyone else who holds his same opinion…stop equating dogs to humans!

I do not condone his actions but it is complete nonsense to claim killing a dog is the same as killing a human. Furthermore, your example assumes that Vick’s new dog is the offspring of one of those he previously owned. Talk about making assumptions. Heres 1 vote to permanently ban frogburger.
    —————————————————-

I do not share his opinion. But people(including me) treat our dogs as our children. I have kids and dogs. If someone abuses any of them, I will kill them. They are loved the same and treated with the same respect by me. So as far as emotional attachment goes….yes people and dogs are the same. That is what people on hear are really saying. We as dog owners feel that since we love our dogs and have attacted human feelings to our dogs. So in turn we feel they should have the rights of humans. I will never hate someone for loving another.

I am very impressed with the strides Mr.Vick has made as a person. It does not change his past though. I hated him with every being in my body, when I found out what he did. He has been very busy since, rebuilding his image. But his future as a person looks very bright. I really hope he stays on this path. He seems to be a good father. I hope some day he can be role model for young inner city boys. He has a long way still, but as least he seems to be heading in the right direction. His children deserve to love and care for a dog. He lost that right in my eyes. But if he does have one now and the law allows it, then I hope his daughter can show him how to love and respect that dog. I for one, would love to see him on the dog whisperer. That would be the real test if he is ready to be a dog owner again. Cesar could tell and help him be ready.

This is 2012, not the 1950’s. Everybody has rights and the legal system is corrupted. And to suggest someone to be banned because they have an opinion is ridiculous. I would rather hear someones ignorant statements then ban them!!!

Mr Vick knows that he can not “EVER” own another dog this is a violation of his parole hopefully the “JUDGE ” will see these photographs . I wonder if this idiot ever told his daughter’s what he did to all those poor helpless dog’s . acting like he’s a good parent in those photo’s what a FAKE person he is.

typical anti-vick display of intelligence. did you even read the article? to save you the 20 minutes you’d have to spend trying to read all of those words: he’s not on probation any more.

Do people not realize that alot of people that now fight for animal rights have one before done the same thing vick did. People get the hell over it he screwed up yes but he did his time and now is fixing what he did. People always say people deserve a second chance.but no one is giving him a seconds chance. I don’t like what he did one bit but I see what he has done to fix what he did and I respect that. There is many people that you guys would respect for doing animal work after they were charged like he was and you would be fine with them but you for some reason won’t give him another shot. Think about it.if you.did something and wanted people to give you a second chance.and everyone was acting like this towards you. I believe they should check in on him to make sure everything is good with the dog just monitor him and then its all good. Calm down people.

I hate to sound like a liberal but, this is one time where forgivness enters the picture. I feel he is truly sorry for his past deeds and wants the comfort of an animal. I used to go hunting…now I couldn”t do that under any circumstances…..people can change

I think the Eagles could sign David Berkowitz (Son of Sam serial killer) and Eagle fans would proclaim him to be “elite” and a changed man. The whole city is like Mike Vick, sick and twisted beyond repair.

  99. unex9885 says: Oct 7, 2012 9:40 AM

Really guys?? You sound like a bunch of activists. Vick did something stupid, went to jail and turned his life around. He was young when it happened and its over now. He has a daughter, and why should she be punished and not be able to have a dog? Its really not that big of a deal and the fact that you guys are pretending to be so angry about this is pi$$in me off honestly, lol

This is sickening!

frogburger, got a question for ya…..what are your thoughts on Jerry Sandusky?, Joe Paterno?

  101. people4paws3 says: Oct 8, 2012 9:29 PM

What kind of world do we live in?? Why does this man allowed to own any kind of animal??? If it is for his child in my opinion he should not even be allowed to have a child!! It is bad enough he had a dog fighting ring but he went far and beyond that. Has anyone see the pics of these dogs? Is this the kind of message you want to send to children?? Just because you can run a football up and down a field does NOT make you exempt for this behavior! It makes me sick how much money athletes make for chasing a football! It is not like they cured cancer or something. Gimme a breal already! He knows he is wrong that is why he deleted the pic. Wait till his daughter is old enough to know what he has done!

  102. sufferingbirdsfan says: Oct 9, 2012 8:50 PM

good 4 vick i no most of u are going to dislike this but think about it big Ben can have a wife , Donté Stallworth can drive so think about there are other people that have done things more worse then vick so haters gonna hate

  103. lovedabirds says: Oct 10, 2012 10:38 AM

    @sufferingbirdsfan

So that others have in your words “have done more worse than Vick” that makes Vick having the exact thing he abused & tortured for fun ok for him to own?? Seriously?? Thats your defense??

So it would be OK for Sandusky to be around children as well? With your reasoning, that should be OK too right? Do you see where your logic is an epic fail??

More like Vick defenders are gonna defend no matter what senseless arguments they try to make…

  104. eurobirdbrain says: Oct 11, 2012 1:39 PM

He should never be allowed to own a dog again. He would most likely drop the poor animal.
