Trent Richardson finds some early candy in New Jersey

Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora invited Browns running back Trent Richardson to see if he could find some “candy” running the ball against the Giants defense.

Three plays into the game, Richardson is looking like a happy kid on Halloween. Richardson gashed the Giants for runs on seven and 15 yards to get into the end zone and lift the Browns to a 7-0 lead at the Meadowlands less than a minute into their game.

The Giants offense helped set things up for Richardson’s candy grab. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled after running into teammate Chris Snee on the Giants’ first offensive play of the game and Sheldon Brown recovered on the 24-yard line. Richardson took care of things from there.

Bradshaw is back on the field for the second Giants drive of the game, avoiding the wrath that coach Tom Coughlin rained down on rookie first-round pick David Wilson for his fumble on opening night. Wilson returns kicks for the Giants, but his offensive role has been cut down to almost nothing in the wake of his own miscue.

Good for Richardson. Hope the browns pull of the upset.

27-17 gmen at the half. That said, Richardson is breaking tackles and looking impressive today, but the brownies can’t turn it over like that and still win.
