With tests coming this week, Lions hoping Jahvid Best will be cleared

When Lions running back Jahvid Best suffered his second concussion of the season on October 16, 2011, there were widely divergent reports about how significant an injury it was: Some saw it as a relatively minor setback, while others said it could be career-threatening.

As it turned out, Best’s concussion issues were serious enough that he still hasn’t been cleared to play. But the Lions are hoping that changes very soon.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Best will undergo testing this week to determine whether he’s ready to be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. If things go well, the Lions are optimistic that he could play against the Bears on Monday, October 22 -- just over one full year after he last played.

According to Schefter, Best has been working out as hard as ever and is in better shape than at any other point in his NFL career. If Best is good to go, he could give a boost to a Lions team that’s off to a disappointing start this season.
