Well now we can crank up the court battle again. Yippy! But be warned Saints fans and conspiracy theorists, the outcome will not change. Goodell has now met the requirements of the appeals arbitrator and clearly shown in his decision how this is primarily a conduct detrimental issue, and secondarily a salary cap issue. And furthermore that the salary cap violations were not considered in the player discipline aspect of this issue. The fact is several rules were broken. This is technically gambling. And this is why. Theoretically, one of the Saints could've approached a Vikings Olineman, and offered him money to let him have a free shot at Favre. Not realistic considering the amount of money at stake. But keep in mind, we don't know the total bounty on Favre's head. All we know is that Vilma donated 10k. There is evidence that the highest paid players donated to the bounty pool. And there was a carry over from week to week from donations and penalties. So is it unrealistic to speculate that maybe 25k, 50k or maybe even 100k was on his head? I mean you have 53 guys collectively making 115M dollars in that season alone. Is it unrealistic to think they may have put up 50k or 100k of that to try and get Favre out of their path to a championship? I'm inclined to believe that because of the nature of this whole thing, that most evidence was destroyed. I'm kind of assuming that we are only seeing a part of the story. It's completely likely that they massive amount of unseen info the league has on this issue, is probably not solid enough to use as evidence. But also probably points to the possibility of a much uglier scenario than we all realize. That would also explain why Goodell refuses to release it to the public, and only releases the absolute minimum amount needed to prove the suspensions valid. Now it's a sort of conspiracy theory also. But a much more likely to be true one, than the "NFL created Bountygate because of the concussions suit" conspiracy theory. See that makes no sense, because this issue has nothing to do with the concussion suit. It's not like the NFL's case in those suits gets rosier because of Bountygate. If anything it worsens their position, by showing there was more danger than meets the eye, and a culture they couldn't control. A skilled lawyer will be able to prove that bounties existed on other teams during a large portion of the time frame the suits cover. Making the NFL liable through negligence as well directly. Just gives the ex-players another front to wage war on. The fact is Bountygate is the last thing in the world Goodell wanted. He probably would've like to sweep it under the rug and forget about it after the run of bad publicity for the NFL over the last 2 years. Fact is the concussion suits are what forced him to have to deal with Bountygate. So it also makes sense that if he didn't have enough proof he would not have admitted it happened. The proof existed so he had to do something about it. Now back to my conspiracy theory, which is actually more a case of common sense. If Goodell was forced to deal with Bountygate because too much proof existed to deny it, then wouldn't he want to release all the evidence he could to show why he's doing it? That's the question right? And the most widely accepted "they didn't do it" argument is that it somehow can help the NFL's position in it's concussion litigation? That makes no sense whatsoever. As it really hurts the NFL's position. On the other hand once one accepts that fact it seems obvious that Goodell has nothing to gain from hiding evidence but negative consequences. So whatever he discovered they were doing, that he is covering up must be bad enough for him to take all this bad press over it. He's allowed himself to be painted out a tyrant and dictator who runs the owners who employ him. So I imagine there was some indications in the info gathered during the investigation that pointed to far worse things than a 10k bounty for a "knock out" on a QB. We heard Williams instruct the D to take out just about everyone on the 49ers offense but the Oline. So I imagine for several seasons there was an attempt to reduce or stop, by the intimidation of possible injury or injury itself, the production of any major offensive weapon on every team the Saints played. And furthermore these attempts were rewarded or punished through an organized bounty system, that at some point probably became a bigger goal than winning, because of the belief that reaching bounty goals created wins. As evidenced in the NFL films Hargrove video, the Dline was so distracted by the bounty reward and the QB being supposedly put out of the game, that they couldn't even listen to the DLine's coaches instructions. You would think as a DLineman in the NFC championship you would listen up when a new QB is coming in the game, and the whole D strategy is going to do a 180! But these guy are more worried about winking at each other and running there big mouths instead. You know that's now proof of anything. But I'm not in a court, and I'm not suspending anyone. And I truly believe with every fiber of me that the video represents exactly what the NFL claims. Regardless of who says what to who, it shows how deep the whole thing had gotten. It also demonstrates how the coaches were losing control of their dogs.

How about Brett Favre’s illegal crackback block that ended Eugene Wilson’s season during a meaningless 2009 preseason game?
That look like it took much effort or skill?

Uh, what? Eugene Wilson played in most of the Texans games at the beginning of the season. His season ended after week 11 or so due to a foot injury in no way related to the preseason incident.

It didn’t matter. If Vilma had said “I’ll give $10,000.00 to the player that predicts the minute Favre desperately tries to be the all-me all-now hero and throws the game losing pick,” the outcome would be the same.

I remember how excited the Viking fans were when they “took Favre from us.” At the time I forgot to mention one thing.

Thank you.

Let's not let FACTS get in the way of what actually happened dude>

After Favre threw the pick (had to try to pass as our general at the time, Chilly, made a change to the play, causing 12 men in the huddle), but the Vikes held the saints.

The saints won in OT on a flurry of gawdaful lack of calls during the OT and during the game.

Now, THANK-YOU!!

By the way, Vikes kik ass, and the pukes NOW SUCK!!!!!!!!!

Still no evidence? How high is your bar for evidence? Video tape of cash being exchanged?

The 2009 Saints inflicted the fewest injuries on opposing players? That sounds like a ''Study'' brought to us from the company that says there is no global warming.

BTW, Favre was not sacked a single time in the NFC Championship Game. This means that every hit he took came after he released the ball. My personal favorite hit was Darren Sharper's spearing into Favre's chin/right shoulder after taking two steps on a safety blitz. No call.

As for Vilma, do you know what liars do when they get caught? They lie.

"I don’t remember much about that game except for Favre’s INT and the lopsided ref’s call in OT.

I’m guessing if there was a bounty, that would have been ill advised because the back up QB probably wouldn’t have throw the INT and the Vikings would have made it to the Superbowl.

Funny how life turns out."

What a dumb comment. Favre played extremely well in that game apart from one bad pass. If it wasn't for him, the Vikings wouldn't have drove into field goal range to begin with, and the late interception wouldn't have mattered. Adrian Petersen's three lost fumbles cost them that game a lot more than Favre's one interception.

Regarding comments about the Chargers game Sunday, the roughing penalty that overturned the interception was absolutely the right call. The guy hit Brees square in the jaw with the crown of his helmet -- you'd have to be completely biased or just ignorant to disagree with that call.

Now the offensive pass interference call was iffy, but ultimately that and the holding call that followed, and the sack that preceded it, were negated when the Chargers got the automatic first down after the illegal hands to the face penalty.

I am not a Chargers fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the Saints were absolutely handed that game by the officials.

One call in particular was when they called roughing the passer on... I don't remember the player, where Brees threw an interception returned for a touchdown by the Chargers. The penalty instead gave the Saints 15 yards and a first down, where they subsequently scored a touchdown several plays later, effectively taking 7 points off the board for the Chargers and adding 7 of their own, not to mention the momentum shift. A 14 point swing that would have surely effected the outcome of that game. But that wasn't the only horrid call. There were several others that were not called on the Saints including several holds.

It didn't matter. If Vilma had said "I'll give $10,000.00 to the player that predicts the minute Favre desperately tries to be the all-me all-now hero and throws the game losing pick," the outcome would be the same.

This is why Roger Goodell is bad at his job. This story needs to go away. Whether you agree with the league or not, it has been going on since March. If Goodell had any sense whatsoever, he would have worked out some deal with the players where in return for some type of reduced suspension, they would agree to not complain, not appeal, and simply move on. The NFL would still have sent a message, and it would have put a negative story (and a story that takes away from what happens on the field) to rest. But what he did was basically say I don't care about anything else then showing I am in charge.
