Considering Lovie didn't have a QB for his first 5 years but still had 2 North crowns and Bowl appearance is damn good. When he finally did get a QB there was and is no line but still got another North crown and was on the way to a wild card last year with no WR's. Lovie is the best coach the Bears have had since the late 80's....

Lovie Smith has taken the Bears a long way in the years he's been in Chicago - and he wasn't always given much talent towork with. He and his wife are a class act - and have done amazing things here in Chicago - not for the press..but because that's the sort of people they are. And this is spoken by a die hard Steelers fan. Might learn from the Steelers who have had only three coaches in how many years? And how many rings?

Hello morons:

For those of you lacking the mental capacity to see the insult made at the "anonymous GM" mocking the Lions and their management, I feel for you.

Clearly the post wasn't "real." Wow, some of you actually believed this; quite funny really.

See, here's the thing. The Bears aren't going anywhere with #6. Your 1950's ice cream parlor, James Dean wannabe QB lacks the "it" factor, and frankly, that's all that needs to be said. I give the Bears credit for an aging defense still producing at a high level, but when push comes to shove, Cutler won't get the job done. Objective Bears fans realize this, enjoy the regular season wins, and hope the implosion isn't too awful to "bare."

"NAW.. dont sign Lovie not right now Chicago wants that trophy. If Lovie can bring home a Superbowl Win then Yea sign him but if not… Lets see who’s ready to coach… an offensive minded coach"

Agreed...And by the way, I am a Bears fan like you, not sure why you blasted me on the Alshon Jeffery thread yesterday, I think you mistakenly attributed someone else's post to me...Go Bears!

I just read this from an anonymous rival GM from an insider at Pro Football Reporting:

“The Bears are the most overrated team in the NFL. This goes all the way up to the owner and down to the assistant coaches and even the quarterback. I mean what has Cutler ever accomplished as a Bear? The NFL is judged on wins and losses, and Cutler doesn’t have a Superbowl ring. And GM Phil Emery, what has he done other than create locker room divisions with his best players by not communicating with them? Their locker room is in shambles. One defensive player (also anonymous) said that he wishes Cutler’s red practice jersey would ‘turn to white’.”

Boom!

Smith has proven that if you give him the players, he will give you the wins. Jerry Angelo found plenty of "diamonds in the rough" in the draft, but he often whiffed on his first and second round picks which make it difficult to win. If the new GM can consistently deliver in the draft, we will see more consistency from Smith and the Bears.

My only concern is that Jay Cutler would benefit from a strong offensive minded coach similar to what Favre had in Holmgren.

Smith is a very good coach who’s understated demeanor has cause him to be viewed as less than what he is. Lovie Smith’s teams are always fundamentally sound, always play hard, and have out played their talent level more often than not. He is also the rare player’s coach who is able to maintain an extremely tight ship, and still be well liked in the locker room and around the league. I would be happy to see him extended, and I don’t see any reason that he wouldn’t be able to win a Super Bowl now that he has a GM who is giving him the right tools.

I think Lovie Smith is an underrated coach. It seems like most of Chicago's problems come from personnel rather than coaching. After all, until this year they didn't have a decent receiving corps. If they get some help on the O-Line on next year's draft, they'll be a scary team.

Coach Smith is legit as a head coach and strategist. The defense has been spectacular. The head coach is largely responsible for schemes and the Bears are doing fine defensively. Offensively, it is hard to hold Smith responsible given the failure of Angelo to give him an o line, respectable OC, and until this year halfway decent receivers and a backup that can win a game or two in a pinch.

Bears should definitely resign Lovie. After Dick Jauron and Wannie Bears fans should appreciate Lovie. I love how hard his players play for him.

Smith’s deal runs through the 2013 season, and if the Bears keep winning, they’ll surely want to extend Smith early next year.

I don't think so. This team is far too basic and mundane for my taste. Unless he bring home a Lobardi trophy, in the next two years, I would love to see someone new on the sidelines. Yea, he wins games but never the big one.
