You could not be more wrong about Bradshaw. He was a loner. He suffered from depression, which prevented him from being very social. He even refrained from hanging out with his teammates. He moved his mother in with him to keep him company. He was also a deeply religious person.
Do some homework before you lump everyone in with Roethlisberger. Just because Bill did it, that doesn’t mean all presidents did it.

The only stats needed when comparing Roethlisberger and Bradshaw are these:
– Bradshaw: 27,989 career passing yards and 212 career TD passes.
– Roethlisberger: 27,527 career passing yards and 172 career TD passes.
Obviously, Bradshaw was more skilled at getting his teams into the end zones than Roethlisberger, which is really the true measure of any quarterback.
By the way: Nearly every quarterback from Bradshaw’s era threw more interceptions than TD passes. Back then, dinks and dunks had yet to be invented, and it was a “bombs away” era.
No one threw a better deep ball than Terry Bradshaw.

Bradshaw has always had a very fragile pysche in terms of emotional responses to criticism, boos from the crowd, Noll’s blunt coaching style and just a long list of real or perceived slights — even lumping in the City of Pittsburgh on his “they hurt my feelings” list.

So it seems like Bradshaw’s outspokenness and harshly critical and unforgiving condemnations against Ben (plus others) – starts to encroach into the hypocrisy zone.

And one other thing about Bradshaw’s psyche: he just loves, no, I mean LOVVVVES, to talk about how he came up big in the big games. His eyes light up when he talks about his 4 rings and how only Montana is worthy to be in that same discussion.

As a Steeler fan, my preference is for hard-nosed athletes who’ll put a hat on you, not make excuses and players who don’t talk a lot of noize trying to tear others down or hyping themselves. Unfortunately, Terry has some qualities that are the opposite of all that.

Roethlisberger deserves his share of the blame regarding general jackassery, but he doesn't deserve any blame for the icy relations with Bradshaw. As a diehard Steelers fan, I'll always love Bradshaw. But Terry's ego is exceptionally fragile, even for a public figure. He's never been able to handle the fan appreciation of Roethlisberger. His problems with Ben don't have anything to do with assault accusations that were proved false by the evidence. Terry had a long history of bar-hopping and carrying on with women younger than Roethlisberger's ever hit on. This is all about Steelers fans booing and ridiculing Bradshaw in his early days while they idolized #7 for winning a championship in his second year. It's envy, nothing more.

Bradshaw had issues with Ben’s off field behavior (multiple incidents) and the negative light it cast on the Steeler organization.

I don’t understand the call for Bradshaw to let that slide and mend fences because of a passing record. How hypocritical would that be?

Bradshaw should be commended.

They talked, at Bradshaw’s request, prior to the Steelers’ last SB vs GB. My understanding from the accounts I’ve seen is that the air was cleared and there was an understanding between the two. Not sure why BR would say they hadn’t talked unless he meant about the records.

I think Bouchette has forgotten that Ben was interviewed by Bradshaw prior to the Super Bowl two years ago.

And as far as off the field stuff goes? These words below speak for themselves:

I’ve always thought Ben Roethesberger was overrated, but he always seems to find a way to win.
The Steelers offense doesn’t look like the Patriots’ or the Packers’, but they always have playmakers on the field, who seem to come up big in the biggest of situations (Hines Ward, Willie Parker, Mendenhall, Holmes, etc.). Kind of like Manning in NY.

With regards to this spat, it’s just a personal thing for Bradshaw. Guys like that have large egos and are very proud, and usually dislike when people overtake their legacies. If you think Bradshaw dislikes Ben solely b/c he takes the moral high road, you’re clueless.

Ben was a bit of an a** with the women. But he didn’t do anything illegal, and he apologized and moved on.

I wish people would watch the taped interview with the “victim” and the police. I was ready for Ben to be cut until I saw that interview. It’s clear that she was embarrassed to have sex in a bar bathroom but somehow needed to save face. However I do understand its much easier to hate than to look @ the facts

I’ve seen almost every game both of these great QB’s have played.

The passing #s are skewed in Ben’s favor due to differences in the 2 eras.

If they were contemporaries fighting for the Steeler #1 QB job, Ben would win and TB would be a bench warmer.

I don’t get Bradshaw zinging Ben at all…but Terry is a VERY different cat.

This is just Terry being Terry. I’ve always been a big fan of his on and off the field. The one issue I have with Bradshaw is that he can be a little over critical on player and in particular Steelers . He also has a bad habit of personalizing things. Terry tends to forget about all the trouble he got into when he was playing the game. How would his and other players from 70′s and 80′s legacy have changed if they had 24 news cycle and the internet. Like Big Ben or not he’s taking the right road on the issue.

Bradshaw was surrounded by how many HOF’ers on offense? Swann, Stallworth, Webby, and Harris. The defense that kept his offense alive for most of his career has Greene, Lambert, Ham, and Blount in the Hall.

Simply comparing rings to rings is misguided.

Much ado about nothing here. It does not matter if they like each other. I also thought they had a conversation a year or so ago, but so what if they don’t speak ever again? They are the 2 best QBs the Steelers ever had, they played in different eras under different rules, and both are winners.

Bradshaw left the Steelers angry and didn’t even show up at the Chief’s funeral. He is/was as much a diva as people say Ben is. And yes it was Bradshaw that said the negative things about Ben, which was his right to do so if that was his opinion. Glad the Steelers didn’t follow Bradshaw’s advice about getting rid of Ben, and glad Ben has behaved in a stellar fashion since he made mistakes in the past.

Don’t care if Bradshaw like Roethlisberger…Bradshaw hated the Steelers and Pittsburgh after he retired it took him almost 20 years to even return to the stadium. He hates them and the fans bc they booed him and he had a “sensitive emotional side”…so not surprising either he wanted the Steelers to dump him before he broke his records

Terry needs to grow up look Ben made a few mistakes but terry is just like the other guys in the nfl player media they forget the roots of their success and bash teams they played for sad. Also news flash Ben’s 2 are better than Terry’s 4. Terry had a great team around him. Yes Ben didn’t play great in one Super Bowl by don’t forget he was still in the early stage of his career and was in SUPER BOWLS. Sad terry just sad.

It is as different game all together but we cheered for Drew in new Orleans and Big Ben deserves some time as well, as poor a offensive line he has had in the years in Pittburgh. Noted you won’t see one defensive player break any records for a long time. Maybe in total amount of fines.

Terry doesn’t owe Ben some sort of grand gesture when Ben breaks his record. He doesn’t even have to cover it if he doesn’t want to. By the same token, Ben doesn’t have to like or suck-up to Terry just because he covers the sport. The line between media personalities/Ex-players and current players is getting blurred by the day. Ultimately though it shouldn’t matter.

Congrats to Ben on breaking a HOFer’s record. He’s been a tremendous PLAYER (not going to say man, or teammate – but definitely player), for the Steelers Organization for a long time. He’s got more good years ahead of him and hopefully more rings in his future.

Careful Ben, QBs these days don’t “earn” records. Its a passing league, so its no big deal. The original QB with the record you’re breaking will always be better than you. You’ll have to break that record x2 for anybody to be amazed by it. Just ask Drew Brees.

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Are you blaming Terry Bradshaw for not wanting to associate himself with a person who has a propensity for violence?? One of the biggest problems among NFL athletes is the lack of boundaries they put up for themselves which ultimately end up getting them in huge sums of trouble, so much so that you have a damn “Days Without An Arrest” counter on this freaking web page!
