APThe hit from Jets guard Matt Slauson on Texans linebacker Brian Cushing has launched plenty of stories, here and elsewhere.
Was it legal? Was it clean? Will the NFL change the rules to make it not legal?
We’ve yet to hear from the guy who received the hit. And in his first comments since suffering a torn ACL, Cushing didn’t address the hit itself. Instead, he focused on the future — both for himself and the team.
“Trust me when I say that I’ll be back better than ever next year; but in the meantime, I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and you fans for all the amazing love and support,” Cushing said on his Facebook page.
“Oh, and WE are STILL winning THIS year’s Super Bowl.”
Texans fans will love to hear it, even as they wonder how the Texans will pull it off without Cushing, the leader of the team’s defense.

So he found some extra strong steroids?
NBC Sports Talk should just change there name to Jets Talk. I thought there were 31 other teams in the league.
They were not going to win it WITH him, much less without. The Kubiak liability will rear its head soon.
k
Give me some of what he’s smoking.
This guy is a beast. He didn’t cry like a diva WR Holmes after the injury and the day he finds out he tore his ACL he is making the negative and trying to make it a positive… Knowing that the team I root for, the Jets, won’t make the playoffs I will be rooting for the Texans…
Ok Rex Ryan
One more thing there Brian, if they can win it without you then why would they bring you back next season?
Think before you speak young lad.
Careful what you wish for..Kalil did that and is now out for the season..bummer..
Lot of games to play yet buddy don’t be pulling a Ryan or Vick just yet. Foster isn’t exactly the most durable and Andre is slowing down. Chet can still happen.
Must be on some good pain meds!
more Cushin for the pushin
get well soon!
p.s. steroids won’t regrow ligaments cush
Brian Cushing ….don’t discount your value to the team, especially the defense.
The Bears lost Urlacher in 2009 to a broken wrist, the season was a bust.
Here’s to a complete and speedy recovery, and good luck to the Texans without you.
From a Bears fan.
Well, call me petty, but roid boy has it wrong if he thinks his team is going to win THIS year’s SB, since it has already been played, back in February. ;o)
Lol
The kiss of death.
Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus………NO NO – I mean yes NFL fans there are 2 sets of rules regarding players. We, me, you don’t pay our hard earned money to see a defensive player. We want to see the greatest show on turf (OFFENSE). If we wanted to watch a low scoring defensive game we would, as Americans, watch more soccer. The other football
BAHAHAHAHAHA juice boxes say the funniest things. …High on meds are we?!!!!
Very bold statement, not saying they won’t, but dang.
I’m glad Cush is stating facts
What!? an injured player expressed regret for his injury but reaffirmed his confidence in his team?!? STOP THE PRESSES!
Hope you noticed the sarcasm, was layin’ it on pretty thick.
We will win the Superbowl
When the Cowboys say it…I snicker
When Cushing says it about the Texans…I believe him
-Cowboys fan since ’70
Very bold and quite presumptuous don’t you think?
that’s wat they all say.
Doubt the Texans will win the superbowl. I see them choking in the playoffs…and who have they beat? c’mon guys.
I concur.
While I think that his comments are exactly what us Houstonians and his teammates needed to hear, which only further examplifies his leadership, Im sure mmany non Texans will disagree, which is not only ok but justified. However, thougj Bradie James is no where near the talent, he knows rhis system and will be able to fill the onfield leadership role well.
Go Texans, Bulls on Parade
I will miss the Cushing’s nastiness on the field.
Dobbins is the next man up and Timmy will do fine!
Great enthusiasm but I doubt it.
well their D gave up alot of yards to a jets offense that got completely shut down by the 49ers, and gave up alot to the titans the week before, and andre johnson seems to have lost a step too, i wouldnt say they are SB bound this year
Guaranteeing Super Bowls is usually bad mojo! Just sayin
Ps, the hit was fine with me, unfortunate outcome aside
They aren’t winning it either way. The roads goes through Baltimore this year.
I’m sure he’ll get back on his steroids and heal just fine.
Yea right Cushing! Wishful thinking you haven’t had any real tests.. Get off your little 5 game hype.. This is the NINERS year!!! We doin it this year it’s out time!!! Get it in!! GO NINERS
Sorry bro, Carolina called it first. Plus it was in the newspaper so it has to be true.
The Lions should trade for Cushing and put him on the shelf. Send them something they can use this year as well to help them win the Super Bowl. He could be very right, and still help his team even more in an ironic way that he won’t be able to celebrate with them.
Hopefully, the Texans offensive line will be the first OL to quit the exact same technique.
Pretty bold statement for a team that just struggled to beat the Jets.
O the hubris….
I’m looking forward to the party in New Orleans!!
Falcons vs Texans in the Super Bowl?
Dope up Cushing. Worked before
Get healthy Cush. I doubt the NFL will let the Texans win it all over over one of their darling teams, though.
A curse upon any who mention steroids in the following comments.
Just beat the Packers and I will be happy.
Please take Karlos Dansby off the Dolphins hands!!!
NOT !!!!! Weak a– AFC team with weak a–
scheldue does not make you a better team.
It might make you look good but not a great team.
The Houston Oilers all over again !
Great spirit Matt, always be optomistic, we know your excited for your team, but in reality beating 5 of the lowest ranked teams in the NFL is good. but Still not getting through Foxborough. Lets let him have his fun for now. Best to reevaluate your statement after week 13
Umm…no.
Powerful drugs those doctors gave him… He’s the heart of their defense that’s tough to overcome
Texans are good, yes, and they’re definitely getting a lot of press, but as we all know if you play football in New York or Texas, you will be talked about more than your fair share. But I just don’t see anyone beating the niners in a playoff game. I haven’t seen a defense as good as the niner’s in a long, long time. And I’m not even a San Fran fan, I’m actually a Lions’s fan. I just think the niners are being overlooked from a national perspective.
What the hell do you people expect him to say? “I’m the missing link and the team will be awful without me”? Give me a break folks
‘Roid-Boy. pfft…
The Texans are GOOD, but they’re not getting by the Patriots and their no-huddle, power running game featuring the Tom Brady-led complementary passing game. Teams can pass on the Patriots, but they can’t run, and the Patriots are, as usual, tough in the Red Area. Plus, Wes Welker’s tellin’ jokes…
Brian Cushing and Ryan Kalil should hang out together, both injured, both promising superbowls both USC …..
Right on stoner stoner are the smartest your right NINERS defense is the BEST
The heart of their defense? Have you heard of a guy named JJ Watt?
Next Question:
Will he get mad when he is left out of the team picture?
Falcons should probably WIN a playoff game first. Not saying they can’t get to the Superbowl, but I think they should clear their most glaring hurdle first
maybe he should ask ELI about that…
Going to have to go through the Colts just to get out of the division just like every year. Laugh now, cry later.
“With me going down for the season, the team will probably be resting the starters for the rest of the season so they don’t get hurt for next year. This season is pretty much lost without me on the field and the team doesn’t have the depth or heart to replace me. Hang up the cleats and we’ll try again next year.”
- No one ever
my packers went 13and 0 last year and started talking about going undefeated and winning the superbowl….. lost there first playoff game last year and haven’t been the same since. just saying, hope you have a healthy recovery, stay humble.
Rex Ryan said:
“49ers over Texans”
24-13
Lets do a head count on the defense shall we… Texans still have JJ Watt, Antonio Smith and Cody Norris, Barwin and Brooks Reed linebacking, J. Joe, Mercilus, Kareem, Daniel Manning, Quinn, all still healthy! Offensively we still have Schaub & Arian Foster. Smith, Brown and Myers still healthy on the O-line. Owen daniels, James Casey, Garrett Graham, TE’s good to go. “The Great One” Andre Johnson still hasnt bit the turf yet. We’ll be fine!
Rex ryan – fail
Vince young – fail
Ryan Kalil – fail
Brian Cushing – easy to predict
Lets see Patriots..Ravens..Steelers.. Falcons.. BEARS.. Giants.. 49ers.. Man a lot of teams got something to say about that superbowl trophy. and if the Texans think they cant be beat be careful you got Greenbay coming to town this week.
