All those people that Tom Coughlin believes are picking against the Giants this weekend may feel more secure about their decision after a look at the team’s practice report from Wednesday.
Seven Giants missed the session, including tight end Martellus Bennett. Bennett left Sunday’s win over the Browns a couple of times with a knee injury, but returned to finish the game. Bennett told reporters, including Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, that he “messed some s— up” in his knee in that game. He hopes to be able to play against the 49ers, but isn’t sure whether the messed up s— will resolve itself in time to allow that to happen.
Defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and safety Kenny Phillips all missed the last game and all were absent from practice on Wednesday. Coughlin said that he hopes Nicks, who has been skipping Wednesday practices all year, will be able to practice this week. It’s not clear if he needs to do that before he’d be cleared to play in a game. Phillips is expected to be out a while longer with a sprained MCL and Bernard is fighting a quadriceps injury,
LB Chase Blackburn, CB Corey Webster and RB Andre Brown were the others to miss practice. Blackburn is expected back at practice on Thursday and Webster has been playing despite a broken bone in his hand. Brown needs clearance from doctors before he can return from the concussion he picked up against Cleveland.
