Packers player says “refs are out to get us”

AP

Buried at the very bottom of an article regarding the problem with yellow flags that’s plaguing a team whose fans wear large yellow foam hats is a contention that borders on the outlandish.

“It’s definitely on us as players,” an unnamed Packer told Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  “But I think the refs are out to get us this year.”

Making that over-the-top remark even more over the top is the fact that there have been two completely different sets of refs this year.  And the real refs, who have been back for two weeks after the lockout ended, have no reason to be “out to get” the Packers, for two major reasons.

First, it was a game-deciding call against the Packers that paved the way for the real refs to get paid.  Second, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was one of the few voices loudly complaining about the replacement officials, which if anything would make the real officials less inclined to stick it to the Packers.

So those nine penalties for 89 yards against the Colts, including a roughing-the-passer call on linebacker Nick Perry that was despite objections a great call, surely were deserved.  As were the seven penalties for 43 yards against the Saints.

Bottom line?  We’ll never cease to be amazed by the extent to which some folks will warp reality in the hopes of blaming someone else for things that are their own fault.  The Packers, so far, are a shadow of the team they were last year.  And they’re not going to get any better if players actually believe their struggles trace not to the men in green and gold but to the men in black and white.

  1. This is pretty standard this season. Cant win on your own?

    1. Blame the refs.
    2. Say “They didnt beat us. We beat ourselves, and we are still a better team than they are”

  2. The Pack has more than their share of terrible calls. With that said, calls are part of the game and you have to play through them. No excuses.

  3. How in Gods name could a pro football player make such a ridiculous statement?? “Out to get us?” Are they serious??

That is such a pompous statement. It’s as if they are saying they are so damn good the refs have no choice but to even the playing field.

Give me a big fat break Packers. Grow up and realize parity in the NFL is what’s out to get you.

  4. The bottome line here is that the Packers really aren’t that good and have been somewhat lucky. Conversely, Daaaa Bears AND Vikings are better teams and haven’t been lucky with injuries and such.

  5. What a joke, suck it up Packers, your not as good as you were and other teams have gotten better. You were an elite team but it wont last forever. They all know the game plan….pass…pass…passs.

  6. The Packers need to stop crying and play football. They have a great QB, a couple very good WRs and two very good defensive players but other than that they are a very flawed team.

They can’t run the ball, they can’t protect the QB, they can’t cover in the secondary or pressure the QB. Is that the fault of the refs?

Last year Rodgers had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the game but that ain’t happening again this year. Those season come along once in a career. Brady couldn’t follow up his 50 TD season with another great season neither could Peyton.

  7. I said earlier that I think the Seahawks outcome has tweaked this teams psyche and they are more concerned with the referee’s making the call than they are about the opponent. This really bothers me. The Packers HAVE to be more professional than this.

    Grow up.

  8. I disagree with the player’s sentiment, but I also disagree with you on Nick Perry’s roughing-the-passer call. It was NOT an excellent call! Guy was running, and it was a tackle.

  9. The Sam Shields DPI call in the Colts game was definitely NOT DPI. Thats the second flag he has received this year while playing great D, the first was vs the Seahawks which should have OPI instead. Not to mention Tate’s blatant two handed shove of Shields on the “Fail Mary.” You also fail to mention the reviewed calls the “real refs” have made. A “catch” by Jimmy Graham in which the ball obviously touched the ground. MM threw the red flag only to have the refs uphold the call as a catch. Unreal. Against the Colts Tramon Williams had what looked like an INT. Looking at a replay the ball also touched the ground. Colts challenged, refs overturned INT call saying the ball touched the ground. Saints game; catch. Colts game; incomplete. THROW OUT THE RULEBOOK.

  10. “Bottom line? We’ll never cease to be amazed by the extent to which some folks will warp reality in the hopes of blaming someone else for things that are their own fault. So true!

But they are the Packers – a team and a fan base who feel “entitled”.

  11. Well, it’s easier to say the “refs are out to get us,” instead of, “reggie wayne dominated against us,” or “how can a professional kicker shank a field goal in a dome?”

  12. 1. Packers players say the Giants didn’t beat them last year, they beat themselves (Had nothing to do with Manning). 2. Then they say the Niners didn’t beat them (Had nothing to do with the best defense in football) 3. They say the refs beat them against the Seahawks (Had nothing to do with the 8 sacks they gave up). 4. Now the refs are out to get them.

Suffice it to say, the Packers are in denial. They’ve got a team culture problem.

  13. The Packers offense just needs to get it going again. The defense, while still not great, is much better than last year. Aaron Rodgers has to play a lot better, the offensive line has to protect better, and they need an answer at running back. A win in Houston would be great, but I doubt it will happen. Still a lot of season left, but it doesn’t look good for the Packers. It’s a great organization though.

  14. To Packer fans – does this quote by an “anonymous player” sound exactly like something Jermichael Finley would say? He’s the only one immature enough to say something so friggin stupid.

  15. Excuses make me sick, and refusing accountability for your own actions and performance is for losers. Some guy named Lombardi talked about that kinda stuff. In addition, some dude named McCarthy talks about it too. Bad calls happen, great teams get past it.

I’m a huge Packers fan, but this puts us one step closer to being the Raiders. Unacceptable and sickening.

  16. lol The Packers have a long history of getting help from the refs. Aparently the Packers are no longer the NFLs special little darlings.

  17. First off, whenever an “unnamed player” says something, the first thing i think is the writer throwing s*** at the wall hoping it sticks. Secondly, if a player did in fact say that, it embarrasses me as a packer fan. Whoever said that should be released or traded, regardless of who it is. Third, nobody can honestly say the roughing the passer on nick perry was a good call. Whoever says it is, i know is a liar.

  18. For a team who has benefited and encouraged awful play-calling from officials over the years, it’s beyond ridiculous to say that the refs are out to get them and then go unnamed. Learn some humility like your quarterback and play better.

  19. The packers good fortune was only gonna last for so long. It ran out faster than I expected, and it’s glorious. They went from Favre to Rodgers without missing a beat and got a Super Bowl win. Now they look common like 75% of the rest of the league and they are whining about it. They are a classless team. They picked off Cutler 5 times and talk trash about him after the game. The bears picked off Romo 5 times and didn’t say a word about him. You tell me which team has more class.

  20. There’s two parts to this comment. One is that the Packers have gotten boned by the refs this year, and by my account at least, that’s completely true. They’ve gotten screwed hard.

The second part of that comment though is what I take issue with — the player seems to think it’s some grand conspiracy. It’s not. It’s just the way of the game. Teams get screwed all the time. Some years, you come out on top, some years you don’t. For the Packers, this year is the latter.

Also, opposing fans will look for any opportunity to sling a little mud. It’s quite possible that comment was just tongue in cheek, and/or a little bit of venting. As if no one here ever uses hyperbole.

Regardless, Packers have to start playing better.

  21. It’s true that the Pack has been highly penalized this year but even as a packer fan I have to say that penaties happen when you’re being out played because you’re playing desperate. That being said, “an unamed packer” is sloppy journalism. When you quote something give the source. Unnamed pcker could have been the waterboy.

  22. Need a little wine with your cheese???

I love watching the packers suck and the fact that they blame it on anyone but themselves is the icing on the cake… SKOL!!!

  23. All that being said, there has been a few cases of the regular refs missing calls, that are now going unnoticed by the media, cause now the real refs are back.

I really wish that the quest for good officiating wouldnt end with the “real” refs coming back, but that the fans and media alike would continue to be aware of the level of officiating, so we can get better refs, and less mistakes during games.

  24. As a life long Packer fan, just shut up and play the game and you won’t have to worry about the refs.

  25. as a packers fan, they have far more problems than the refs. maybe they should block, tackle, and catch a frigging ball when it hits you in the hands. and our mvp should learn to get rid of the ball a little sooner? i hate to say it but if they don’t look in the mirror accept the blame and make a change??? this season will be over. to be up 21 to 3 at the half and lose a game? they are worse than i thought, guess i was drunk on the koolaid. oh and the roughing the passer call on perry i disagree with that call, just my oppinion.

  26. The Packers say “The Refs are out to get us” ?!?!?

Do they not remember last season ? I watched the 2 games against the Giants and saw the Refs give them at least 4 TD’s and several friendly calls & non-calls. Without the help of last year’s Refs….the Giants win that playoff game in a rout.

This year’s Refs are probably steamed at the Pack for not taking advantage of their benevolence.

  27. Ever since the lock out all you here is poor old me from the players. First they don’t want to practice with pads, then replacement officials, now reg officials, next they will want seperate tables to eat their free food.

  28. skippynj says:

I’d rather have the refs out to get me than an out of control commissioner.

Well said; “Not so” Goodell is on a power trip and I can’t believe the NFLPA agreed to the language in the collective bargaining agreement allowing him free range.

  29. As a Packer fan, I call bullcrap on the “refs out to get us” deal. Yeah, the seahawk game was a bummer, but the offense put up a stinking 12 points in that game. It didn’t need to come down to the last play. Against the saints, the fumble by sproles wouldn’t have been a problem if McCarthy hadn’t wasted both of his challenges earlier in the game. The call against Perry has been the same a million times before.

The referees aren’t the reason the pack can’t run the ball, the receivers can’t get away from press coverage, and other teams constantly have receivers running wide open all over the field. Oh, and that our field goal kicker missed two field goals by a country mile in the second half last week. And AJ Hawk, the worst inside linebacker in the league.

Way too many holes in this team for them to be considered a top 10 team at this point.

  30. “They picked off Cutler 5 times and talk trash about him after the game. The bears picked off Romo 5 times and didn’t say a word about him. You tell me which team has more class.”

    —————

What a stupid observation. The Bears and Packers are division rivals; the Bears and Cowboys aren’t.

Also, Cutler made comments before the Bears/Packers game calling out the Packers’ secondary and saying that they weren’t going to be able to stop the Bears’ passing game. Needless to say, they did — and they made sure to let Cutler know it.

  31. what does skol mean anyway? do you realize how stupid you look writing it? skol must mean your a troll? and where were you the last couple years vikings fans? cricket cricket? yeah silent, just what i thought. shhhhhhhhhhhh cuz you still haven’t won anything. usually you talk smack after your team wins something, guess vikings fans didn’t get the memo

  32. I absolutely love stories like this about the Packers. Woodson could get called for PI or defensive holding a lot and its finally catching up with him after all these years and its about time.

In 2010 the pack beat the vikings and the nfl came out later that week and said they blew two td calls which wouldve changed the outcome of the game. The pack snuck into the playoffs on a tiebreak and won the Super Bowl.
    Its Karma and its FUNNY

  33. Call against Nick Perry was terrible, but nonetheless, the Packers have only themselves to blame for their loss to the Colts last Sunday. They were flat for nearly the entire second half.

  34. I saw the Packers and the Colts play. It wasn’t the refs out to get the Packers; it was Reggie Wayne. It didn’t matter how many defenders they put on Wayne because he was Chuckstrong Sunday.

  35. The Packers have been historically good the last year and half so they are an easy team to root against. I get that—especially from Vikings and Bears fans. However, unless you have watched each of these games, you don’t realize how bad it has been. Many of these calls have not only taken a short field away from the Packers, they have led directly to points for the opposition that have been the difference in the game. These are not borderline calls by the way. They are blatantly poor and are coming in bunches. The notion that the Packers have gotten all of the calls over the years is absurd. How about the Jerry Rice fumble in the ’98 playoffs that wasn’t called that allowed them to throw “the catch 2”? Or the series of horrible calls vs. Arizona in ’09 including a personal foul facemask on the game’s deciding play? Both of these horsecrap calls ended the Packers season. Most of your favorite teams haven’t even been in the playoffs more than twice in the past decade—-much less gotten screwed twice.

  36. Unamed sources? Must be an election year.

” including a roughing-the-passer call on linebacker Nick Perry that was despite objections a great call, ”

So true! Typical Joe College move, hitting the quarterback as if he was a football player!

  37. The hypocrisy displayed by Florio is remarkable. If the replacements were out there, he would be crying foul and probably jump on the bandwagon with this packer player, but since it happens to be conveniently regular refs involved now, he tells the player to man up. Hilarious.

  38. Rogers isn’t at the level he was last yr. He’s very good not amazing (last yr). There simply is no rushing on offense it took Rogers great streak last yr to mask that. The defense can only rush the passer, which creates turnovers masking their inability to stop passing & rushing attacks of opposing teams. Rogers has to be great & defense needs turnovers for them to win at all.

  39. Interesting we slam the players for saying what almost every blog on this site says. Every fan seems to think their team is screwed all the time as well.

Newsflash… Refs are on the field calling a game at eye level at a blazing speed. They will make some mistakes and it happens across the board.

Another newsflash… Many bloggers don’t understand the rules well enough to have a factual opinion anyway.

A third newsflash… Most games are NOT decided by the refs and that includes the seattle/gb game. 8 sacks and poor execution had a lot to do with it. If you want to complain about the last play please include the PI call on 3rd down that set up GB’s TD. Without that bad call the rest is irrelevant.

Last newsflash… How many “darlings” can the NFL have, Patriots, Saints, Packers, etc. I guess where you stand depends on where you sit.

  40. As a Patriots fan, I have a few things to say. First of all, you didn’t beat yourselves in the playoffs, the Giants just kicked your @sses so bad that you repressed the entire game somewhere in your mind. Also, I seem to remember a lot of bogus calls in that game (roughing the passer on Osi…) that kept you in it. The refs almost gave you that game and you still sucked so bad you couldn’t win it. Didn’t hear you complaining about the officiating then…? Then, after every loss, you claim that “you beat yourselves” or “the refs screwed you”. News flash! THE REFS SCREW EVERYONE!!! I haven’t watched one nfl game in history where I didn’t see a horrible call or non call and this happens several times every single game because fouls like pass interference and holding are extremely subjective and open to personal interpretation. Honestly, I think the Packers just aren’t a good team and this “everyone else’s fault but me” attitude is only gonna make them worse. They need to own up to the fact that they are just being dominated by the ir opponents, the refs aren’t costing them games, and it is no one but their own faults. Is it the refs fault you give up 8 sacks a game or did Ed Hoculi block Crosby’s field goal attempt? Didn’t think so. Stop whining, and accept reality. Until then, you’re going to keep losing games.

  41. In the picture I see Luck, Perry and the football.
My opinion, no roughing the passer. Clearly all three main ingredients are plainly visable

  42. I for one hope the refs are out to get the Packers, it would make up for the previous few seasons where they seemingly had the officials on the payroll.
Now if only we could get the refs to call Pats games fairly, it seems like the real refs love them some Pats.
“Personal foul, looking at Tom Brady, 15 yards, loss of down, 7 points deducted and #whoever is ejected from the game with a 3 year ban.”

  43. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is now reporting that a waaaaaaambulance just recently arrived at Lambeau Field.

  44. i dont think even the state of woosconsin (not a typo) has enuff wine & cheese for these crybabies. maybe its time for this team to go back to pop warner ball where they can be compettive again. crying like your fan base does for every loss stoops to a whole new low.

  45. Almost every post is well stated, and I really love to see the Packer Fans telling these players to shut up.

The best thing about this is that players have brought all of these “bad calls” on themselves. because of a players lawsuit regarding concussions so many more hits are illegal. I still fail to see where it is the NFL’s responsibility to make a violent sport safe. If you are not willing to sacrifice your body to make a living playing a game change jobs. Otherwise sleep in the bed you made and shut your mouth.

If you want the NFL to get better get on your teammates about buckling and tightening the chin strap, wearing all the pads recommended, put in a mouth piece. Let’s stop acting like a little girl, do what you can to protect yourself and at the end of the day go out and win, if you do not then you lost.

And if you have a problem with it think about this. The rookie minimum in the NFL for 2012 is $390k, we will call that and annual salary. The annual salary of a 21 year person enlisted into the military with 3 years of service and normal advancement which puts them at an E-3 (on average) is $23k a year. This comprises the bulk of out military that goes out there and risks their life everyday, to guarantee us the freedom of this blog and to watch your dumbass play football and complain. NOW SHUT UP AND PLAY.

  46. It’s funny. The actual Packer players are as whiny as their fans. Is this the case of players taking on their fans’ mentality or vice versa? Talk about insecure.

  47. Packers should just start selling worst call ever shirts at every game with that date…. Bunch of whiners… Blame rodg for that muffed time out with 8 seconds left. Face it Packers your average

  48. As a Packer fan I hate the fact that the players are making other teams fans hate them by whining. This team needs to toughen up and start winning games. Block your man, make good throws and catch the damn ball. And this isn’t Playstation, McCarthy. You cant pass every down and expect to win. And Rodgers, quit taking sacks and get rid of the ball.

  49. Packer players have the right to whine about the Seahawks game, but nothing else. They should suck it up like their coach did in the post-game press conference and move on. If they have a beef about losses due to any other ref calls, they should look in the mirror first.

  50. The roughing the passer call against Nick Perry was not a good call. It was very poor officiating. Every team gets hurt by poor officiating every year, and hopefully this trend will change for the Packers. It doesn’t help that at least three of the bad calls this year have cost the Packers three turnovers.

Until “unnamed” gets a name this is just reckless journalism that will get you a few extra posts from people who are envious of the Packers.

  51. We all know this game is fast, maybe too fast for the refs to be able to make all the calls on the field. Maybe its time to start putting a ref in the booth so he can call some penalties?

  52. man, what a whiney team. “the refs are out to get us” that goes well with clay matthews the giants didnt beat us, we beat ourselves. first of all they didnt beat you, they destroyed you.
its funny an unnamed packer said that because for years, especially the favre era, they always got calls. Look back at the NFC game you lost to the giants last yr, if the refs didnt keep you in that game eg: the jennings fumble giants took back for a td, a weird td ruling etc, you would have lost by 55…the seattle game was a travesty, no doubt, but packers always get the calls. now with the whining the refs will call other teams even more now.

  53. Packers built up a lot of good will with fans from around the country beginning all the way back when Farve played there. Folks liked that the fans owned the organization, etc.

Rogers and his cohorts are trying to destroy all that good will in one season by crying more than any team (other than the Harbaugh boys). I now hope they lose every game this season–go Bears and Vikings.

  54. Even if the refs were out to get the Packers (they’re not) it would only be fair for the years of favorable calls they have gotten from the officials. Karma rules the universe.

  55. Ok, I find it ridiculous that you guys are making it seem like every packer player is complaining. ONE unnamed packer player complained. Good for him, he is an idiot but don’t blow it out of proportion.

  56. I’m a Packers fan & I hate that kind of talk. Don’t blame the refs for bad play.

That being said, to say the call against Nick Perry was a “great” call? No way. Borderline at best in the league that overprotects quarterbacks.

  57. This player obviously needs to shut up and play, but some of you need to be educated thinking the Refs have been on the Packers side historically. Yes, they got a few calls that went their way during the Giants game last year. But what about 3 years ago with the Packers – Cardinals playoff shootout, and the obvious facemask on Rodgers that wasn’t called in OT that caused him the throw the int? What about the Jerry Rice fumble that was never called in the Packer – San Francisco Playoff game? The reality is the Packers are screwed just as much as every other team by the refs, and over time it will all even out. Yes, they’ve had things go against them this year.. but the pendulum always swings back the other way. The reality is if you are a good team and you play hard you are still going to win games, and the Packers have been getting outplayed this year.

Actually, his comment was, ” if TEAMS want to play press coverage on us…good luck. The packers didn’t press. They played two man coverage on Marshall. Did you watch the game?

  59. The progression of denial:

    1) We beat ourselves.

    2) The Zebras beat us.

    3) It was the shooter on the grassy knoll.

Time to change the tin foil in Wisconsin.

  60. @BigBlueNationbd

Those season come along once in a career. Brady couldn’t follow up his 50 TD season with another great season neither could Peyton.

Is that why Brady went on to win a unanimous MVP a couple years after the 50 TD season?

  61. So the pass interference call against Shields when Avery shoved HIM in the back was justified? Because that call allowed the Colts to score a TD when they were about to settle for a difficult field goal try. W/out that call the Colts are, at best, down six, instead of down two after the TD.

  62. You expect the “refs are out to get us” from packer fans, but I always thought packer players were slightly more intelligent than their fans…….guess not. Funny….when the packers are winning, Aaron Rodgers is “jesus” but when they lose it’s “the refs”.

  63. I’m not sure what is more idiotic – the comments made by certain GB players, or the tough-talking “fans” on this site that have probably never worn a jock strap in their lives, with the exception of Halloween when they dressed up as football players. Bad calls – both for and against a team – are part of the game. The Perry roughing call was a subjective call, period, based upon how the rule was written. Get over it. The DPI on Shields – where it was clearly offensive – was horrible. The USC call on Arians for throwing the red flag was also a joke. It happens, shut up and get over it. And for all the fake name comment board tough guys on here, feel free to fire away if you’ve never complained about officials or umpires. If you have, just shut up and go back to your McJobs.

  64. I hate excuses as much as the next fan even if the refs actually did screw them. Just shut up about it, it does no one any good to bring it up again even if you are stating the obvious.

Refs do make bad calls but I believe they tend to average out over the course of a game and definitely over the course of a season. The refs blew a terrible obvious clipping call in the first game vs the 49ers which allowed GB back into a game that wasn’t even close. Did you hear any Packer complaining at that point?

Focus on the next game and cut out the bitching, say that for the Viking fans who seem to have a real flair for it.

  65. Thank you dwarftosser. There is a big difference in the games you talked about however. The calls that went against the Packers in 98 and 09 directly caused the loss. The calls that went the Packers way vs. the Giants didn’t have any effect on the outcome. If you lose because of obvious bad calls(as the Packers have this year twice) you have a bitch. If you still win the game why would you care? That divisional game last year was never in doubt. These arguments against the Packers are convenient—-not based on any facts that matter.

  66. i ve been. saying it for years…Minnesota and Wisconsin. really ARE mirror images of each other. What s even. more adorable is how the Pack fans are starting to sound like Vike fans more and more everyday. Seriously you Vike fans. need to go lie down by your dishes….this is EXACTLY how stupid you have been sounding since 1976…and especially since the 2009 championship. Glass Houses people

  67. The Giants took the Packers Mojo. Gonna be interesting to watch the Packers fight to get it back on Sunday night, Nov. 25.

  68. That hit on Saint Andrew was 100% clean. Facemask in chest…. You can’t ask for better technique.

  69. memo to unnamed Packer player:
Stupid people should be seen and not heard!
If youw eren’t being targeted, you probably will be now.

  70. Wow, haven’t heard this much crying since ole’ number 4 hung ’em up, and then took ’em back down. I’m sorry, but this Packers team is soft. After that SB win, which they deserved, they now have this “High and Mighty” presence around them, and it is really irritating. Hate on Brett all you want, but I don’t ever remember a team he QB’d whine and point fingers as much as this one does. I don’t think Favre ever placed the blame on anyone but himself for any of those crazy picks he threw. He was battered bruised and broken in the NFCCG, yet no “the refs are out to get me” statements were made. For everyone who thinks Rodgers is elite, I’d take a small step back on that. Rodgers is good, very good, but he is not great, he is not Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. That Defense is overrated, plain and simple. They have the talent to be a better team, but until they start to play like they need to win a game, and not like it should be handed to them because they are the Packers, It’s hard to imagine them making the Playoffs. Also, fans need to get a grip about the penalties that they see. Coulda’, woulda’, shoulda’ won’t change the outcome of any game, I’ll admit, they were robbed the Seattle game, but I would have expected a more fired up team come out of that, they act like they lost the Superbowl, and just found at they are pregnant at the same time.

  71. Anyone ever watch a Packer game? This has been a pro-Packer league in terms of calls for over a decade. Almost EVERY call goes their way. It’s comical at times.

I think the Packers and their ignorant fans have gotten so use to getting every call, that when a few go against them, they assume the refs are out to get them.

Sadly, one of the best quarterbacks in the league leads this ‘blame the refs’ charge… Aaron Rodgers. That’s all he does after every game.

  72. Now the Refs are cheating Greenbay again… OR is it Greenbay beat them self. Excuses for losing games that they should have won easy. THE REFS CANT STOP A SCORE SO GET MORE POINTS THAN YOUR OPPONET AN WIN THE GAME

  73. threedeep1998 says:

Doh K. Woodson was draped on Wayne in the end zone with no PI. Game could have been out of reach had he scored that TD.

Woodson was draped on someone, you don’t say? Every pass play that guy is in that involves covering someone, 99% of the time the refs could call PI. He has gotten away with it long enough, now it’s coming back to bite the Packers. KARMA

  74. I’m a Packers fan, and I cringed when I read this story. Players, coaches, and fans don’t do themselves any favor when they start whining about refs. Yes, refs make bad calls all the time, and sometimes the calls are at unfortunate time like at the end of games or on 3rd down. However, the players really need to look at their own play, like all the sacks they gave up or the WR who dropped that critical pas or the defenders who looked like Swiss cheese.

  75. The irony is that the Packers won the Super Bowl when Ben Rothlisberger had a poor game. Packers didn’t win that game. The Steelers beat themselves. How soon the League’s most arrogant team and fan base forgets that.

So the pass interference call against Shields when Avery shoved HIM in the back was justified? Because that call allowed the Colts to score a TD when they were about to settle for a difficult field goal try. W/out that call the Colts are, at best, down six, instead of down two after the TD.

    ———————————————–

So the non-call on Woodson in the end zone which caused the Colts to settle for a FG instead of a TD had no effect?

In every game fans of both sides could point to calls that went against them. At the of the day, the Colts outplayed the Packers, made the big plays when needed, and deserved to win the game.

  77. @ tundragator

Of course you’re ignoring the awful non-pass-interference call the officials overlooked in the end zone against Charles Woodson, who got away with manhandling Reggie Wayne. If that’s not interference, nothing is.

Kudos to the Packer fans who aren’t going along with this mentality and who realize they are losing because of their own play.

  78. Sepnasty watch the replay, Shields was pulling down on Tates jersey with his left hand. Hard to jump and not get someone’s back when you are being held while ball is in the air. Right call DPI

  79. Hard to win when the NFL seems to hate the Packers. Somebody needs to remind Roger Goodell that the Packers are America’s Team. The Roughing the Passer penalty on Nick Perry was a joke. Tramon Williams had an interception overturned when the ball never even hit the ground. Avery pushed off on Sam Shields but yet Shields gets called for DPI. What a joke Goodell has turned the NFL into.

  80. Seahawks:
-outside the pocket roughing the passer
-they call DPI when the reciever rips the CBs head off
    -the non-TD

    Saints:
Sproles obvious fumble that they ruled down in the 4th..

    Colts:
-Shields gets penalized for DPI on OPI again
-Perry’s sack where when you look at another angle is TEXTBOOK, he did not lean with the crown.

  81. To all the people who keep claiming the Packers got screwed by a non facemask call in the playoffs against Arizona:

The league explained this to you. It is legal to grab the facemask What isn’t legal is twisting it, yanking it, pulling it or turning it. NONE of these things occured (as the NFL explained) on the play where Rodgers gave up the ball on the game ending play.

Now you can stop saying it was a bad call.

  82. The pack cant blame the refs, they just need to play better. However, the Nick Perry hit looked clean to me, textbook tackle and no H2H contact. The refs blew that one imo.

  83. If McCarthy would just run the ball more they wouldn’t have to worry about the refs. Seriously, just run the ball. He said he saw something in the Colts defense in the second half that he could abuse with the pass. Yeah, how did that work out? Look, I know Benson is out now, but Alex Green seems to have speed. JUST. RUN. THE. BALL.

Seriously, sometimes he’s the best play caller (last year) and sometimes it takes him 75% of a game to adapt. After giving up eight sacks in the half, who else would take the entire half to decide to chip-block Seattle’s pass rush.

  84. Entitled Town, love the ring of that and couldn’t be more fitting. They breed a culture of sports entitlement there, from the players all the way down through to the fans and those fans pass it on to their kids.

Sure, they’re not ALL like that (I have in laws that are super respectable fans), but by and large this is the mentality there. Take it from someone who has spent their life living in the state next door.

“Skol” means Good Health, comes from an Old Norse drinking toast. One would think GB fan would know all about drinking…..

  86. Need some cheese with all that w[h]ine. Last Sunday’s loss to the Colts couldn’t have happened to a better team. The Pack secondary was abused and Erin Rogers disappeared in the 2nd half.

  87. First 15-1 team to lose in 1st round of playoffs, ever! Just a continuation of how they finished last season. Nobody elses fault.

  88. My guess is Shields, he had the tough PI call on him vs. Sea. and he had another one in Ind, but it doesn’t matter if the team executes better, maybe a defensive stop on that insane drive by the Colts. They aren’t talking about it this week.

  89. You think the refs are out to get you….you are playing the Texans this week…the league darlings…they won 4 games last year on refs calls…..and then they cry about dirty players…WATCH OUT!

  90. Right truthserum4u, there was clearly no pulling on the facemask. Aaron Rodgers just normally wears a helmet that is way too big and normally covers his eyes.. and the NFL would never release a statement covering for their refs, they have way too much moral integrity for that.

You must be so proud that the crowning achievement in life was delivered on the shoulders of others….most of whom are not residents of your state, nor have any interest in ever returning after their time with that team is over. You are the greatest anything that has ever existed.

Wow. I had to read this twice just to see if I wrote it myself. I couldn’t agree with you more. I too have lived in both states….I was born in Duluth for crying out loud. You will never find a collective group of people with such a superiority complex as you will in Minnesota. They really think they are something special. It’s because they fancy themselves to be more like the mountain gazers of Colorado or the tree-huggers of Seattle than the kissing-cousins of Iowa and the Dakotas. All hat …..no cattle.

  99. My God you people are silly. IF 1/2 of you are at work doing this no wonder this country is falling apart.

That being said, Man Packers. Just shut up & man up.

Gotta go , my boss is coming.

  100. I’ve been around a long time and I heard this over the years and based on the history of the Lions, one of the most penalized teams in NFL history, that poorly coached teams get a lot of penalties.

I take it a little farther. Teams that draft a lot of 4th and 5th rounders who make the team have a lot of penalties because some people cannot be coached and do the same dumb thing over and over again.

The Lions always had guys like that make the team and the Packers are now loaded with them too. TT likes the cheapo players.

  106. (8:44) 3-R.Wilson pass short right intended for 82-E.Moore INTERCEPTED by 22-J.McMillian [93-E.Walden] at SEA 26. 22-J.McMillian ran ob at SEA 26 for no gain. PENALTY on GB-93-E.Walden, Roughing the Passer, 15 yards, enforced at SEA 20 – No Play.

  107. I wonder if the Packers have ever just accepted the fact that they got beat? I mean, 3 out of 5 weeks they played the best football in the NFL and lost because of the ref’s??? Seriously, who says that?

  108. The Packers will beat the Texans on Sunday Night!!! Bad calls or not, this team needs to and will over come the bad calls the last three weeks, and go into there bye week 5-3.
Also as a die hard packer fan, I rather the players not mention the refs and just play the game. There focus should be on the play calling on offense and defense.
By the way, every fan of there team complains every week about the refs. Go to a sports bar, and you’ll see that.

That’s great! Good for you. But I too hear it from Packer fans here in MN. I get a constant barrage of “How many Super Bowls do the Vikes have?” And that is without initiating any insults towards Packers or their fans. Great, your team won a Super Bowl two seasons ago. How are they this year? And last time I was in Wisonsin golfing (Frederic area) I was berated by the locals for having a Viking headcover. And not good-natured ribbing. They were seriously pissed and tried grabbing it from the cart. Pack fans (many, at least) are far worse than Bears fans. I’ve been to both Lambeau and Soldier for games. Give me Bears fans anyday.

  119. I dont know ho is a bigger bunch of whining crybabies Dree Brees and the Saints or Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Its a toss up or cry off. God I miss the days of Dick Butkus when real men played football.

  120. Amen brother…. These new generation football players are sissy la la’s. our high school football team was tougher and complained less. Overpaid actors I tell ya….

  121. Replacement Refs made a call in heat of moment and didn’t conference. They made a call and stood by the call. No way in the middle of that play they were saying, “I making this call against packers”

Union Refs return and miss a fumble that wasn’t. Ooops! The Packer coach has used all his challenges his challenges and can’t throw a flag. Since play isn’t a turnover it doesn’t get an auto review. Oh yeah, Packer coach wasted a challenge to save 5 yards and prevent a first down earlier…. sounds like an ERROR.

Packers have allowed 21 sacks which ranks 31st in the league………. -1 in turnover ratio…..
Packers’ Jennings out; Finley questionable…… Aaron Rogers 2012 Passer Rating = 96.9 vs 122.5 in 2011 ( probably due to the fact that he is on his back much more this year)

Face it… the year they go to the superbowl was as much due to the “way the ball bounces” as anything. And this year it isn’t bouncing their way.

Some of them bragged back then and now those same ones are blamming the refs……. whaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  122. The Packers have become the 90’s Cowboys. Not for SB success, but for making more and more people hate them by the week!

  123. These are the same refs that tried to give you the playoff game last year

You liked them then didnt you?

    ———————————————————–

That call barely mattered. The PI was on first down from the 5, with the Colts still having 2 more chances to score from short range…and at worst they still get a FG. Now if Woodson had knocked Wayne down, and then picked the ball that would have been a huge game impacting call.

  125. Has there been some ridiculous and abysmal calls against the Packers this year? Yes..absolutely. But to maintain a mindset that the refs are “out to get us” is a pathetic excuse and a diversion to the fact that they’ve been out played and out coached in almost every single game this year.It hasnt been the refs that have been playing on the offensive line looking like matadors waving a red cape as the bull/lineman goes running right past..it hasnt been the refs that have been playing QB and overthrowing almost every ball past 20 yards..it hasnt been the refs playing defense that cant stop the run or anyone on a crossing route if their life depended on it..the refs haven’t been on a coaching staff who have not coached a full 60 minutes of football all year or have been embarrasingly lost and without answers all game long.Im thinking the Packers players have been reading too many of their Super Bowl press clippings and making way too many commercials and the other teams in the league would just as soon punch them right in the mouth than watch another State Farm or Old Spice or Fathead commercial.
