Packers still missing three key players

B.J. Raji AP

As the Packers prepare for a must-win game that based on their remaining schedule really isn’t, they’re still missing three of their key players.

Actually, four.  But there’s no way one of them — running back Cedric Benson — will be back by Sunday night.

As to the other three, they haven’t been placed on injured reserve.  They also haven’t practiced yet this week.

Receiver Greg Jennings is still out with a lingering groin injury.  And defensive lineman B.J. Raji (ankle) and tight end Jermichael Finley (shoulder) haven’t practiced since they suffered injuries against the Colts on Sunday.

The Packers will need all the help they can get when traveling to Houston to face the 5-0 Texans on Sunday night.  They may not get any from Jennings, Raji, and Finley.

  7. pudgalvin says: Oct 11, 2012 6:58 PM

Someone’s gonna really have to step up and drop some of Rodgers passes if Finley can’t go.

  8. sippindasyzurp says: Oct 11, 2012 6:59 PM

Finley out doesnt matter.. The team performed best and won the super bowl 2 years ago with him on IR.. Raji is the one that hurts, but Texans also lost Cushing so there is no excuses, so next man up!

I love watching the Packers struggle. Next to the Ravens they’re the whiniest team in football.

The hate is still running rampant on the Packers two years after they won the Superbowl. Good to see! Remember casuals the season is 16 games not 5.

  12. judsonjr says: Oct 11, 2012 7:08 PM

If the Packers are a good team they should be able to overcome these.

It’s one thing if you are missing 3 starters on the O-line or secondary, it’s another to be missing a few assorted players across various positions.

  13. ninefingers9 says: Oct 11, 2012 7:12 PM

Some of you guys are sick! Even as a Vikings rube, I wouldn’t cheer on another teams players getting hurt! That’s messed up!

Packers still missing a Defense, Offensive Line, Humility, Pass Catching WRs, Pass Catching TE’s, CBs That Can Tackle…

There, tried to fix it for you as much as I could but I just couldnt keep track of everything they were missing.

@packafan4life – I can undertand why the hate is still flowing. As a Steelers fan, I can recall how arrogant and brash many Packer fans were after they won the Super Bowl over the Steelers. I know there are lots of Steelers fans who are just as arrogant and, believe me, the hate for that team is still alive and well on here.

Good thing you said lombardis, because if you said championships I would have had to run to the basement to break out all my little league trophies for the world to see.

Packer fans only started crying about the officiating this year because we wanted to be part of the biggest whiners and babies in the league the lions and vikings …

two dome teams in the nfc north what a joke

  22. bombjb says: Oct 11, 2012 7:56 PM

It’s only week 5 people to count them out is a big mistake. You forget Aaron Rodgers is their quarterback. You guys just keep hating and we’ll keep winning. Packers play better as underdogs anyway.

  23. judsonjr says: Oct 11, 2012 8:07 PM

So is Johnny Jolly ever going to get reinstated or is Goodell just going to wait until he is 100% sure Jolly’s career is over.

    Isn’t 2+ years enough?

  24. Peter Venkman says: Oct 11, 2012 8:17 PM

Contra, you’re giving yourself too much credit. You were obviously the unathletic loser kid that didn’t come within a mile of a little league trophy. And if you did, it’s because MN is one of those yuppie places that gives every kid a trophy and tells them they are special.

  25. billh1947 says: Oct 11, 2012 8:24 PM

Isnt it funny how teams with winning traditions are hated by fans of teams with no tradition but lots of mediocrity or worse.in other words losers.

  26. thetokyosandblaster says: Oct 11, 2012 8:26 PM

Try not to let the Mini Viking fans get to you.

They’ve never won anything, so when they’re 2 games ahead of the best team in the division, they get all giddy like a bunch of ADD kids on crack.

Just let them go, and when the Packers finish ahead of them, repost all their drivel and show them just how foolish they are.

    BTW, Harvin is mediocre.

It’s sad to see any team with a bunch of injuries but especially the Packers….I hope all your guy are back soon. Hate to see you lose when you got guys out…much prefer you get your rears kicked with everyone healthy..more fun that way.

  30. stellarperformance says: Oct 11, 2012 9:31 PM

First order of business….make the playoffs. Second order of business…win the division. Third order of business…get home field advantage. Fourth order of business…win the NFC. Fifth order of business…win the SuperBowl.

Nothing yet has got in the way. The Bears were a mere speed bump and the Lions and Vikings do not have staying power. The Packers will get their ship righted and kick ass. It starts Sunday night.

The reason there is an overwhelming number of haters glued to any Packer news? They fear them, and they are wise to do so. Your time is coming…and you know it.

I remember the last time the Packers “got their rears kicked” by the bears. I think Reagan was in office.

@thetokyosandblaster, I know you have no love lost for Pvy, Contra and other vocal Vikings fans, but… you don’t truly think Harvin is mediocre, do you? His play this year has been pretty amazing.

I’m a Vikings fan as well but have respect for the other teams in the division. The Pack will inevitably make a run with whoever they’ve got healthy. I don’t like it, but I think we can begrudgingly admit it’s likely.

As a packer fan I must say…..AHAHAHHAHAHAH you are out of your mind if you think Harvin is mediocre..I guarantee you there very few teams that would pass on Harvin. He is better than Cobb, althought Cobb is only getting better. For Harvin’s size, he is a straight Beast. I bet you would love if he was a Packer, you would be lying otherwise. I’d take him.

Packers still missing three key victories, too

  37. thejuddstir says: Oct 11, 2012 10:19 PM

Like other teams don’t have major injuries. You ever notice that when packer fans get backed into a corner they can only respond by talking about their “glorious past”, LOL. When things are going good it’s “all Aaron Rodgers”, when they go bad it’s the “officials”. When things fall in their laps it’s because of “next man up” and their depth, when things go bad, it’s “the officials”. They love to badmouth other fans that might complain about something but it’s a different story when it’s them doing the complaining. Let’s not forget, the NFL has “special rules” in place that only the packers get to take advantage of, like printing funny money and ability to jump into the stands after a TD. Maybe when they grow up they’ll finally start playing under the same rules as the other 31 teams…..with the real big boys. I have about 10 teams I like to watch and cheer for but no other team and it’s fans are as whiney as the packers.

They were pretty healthy on Sept. 13, and they had some fun!!

  42. spicdon1 says: Oct 12, 2012 1:17 AM

It’s funny to me…once the injuries start flowing and the offensive line for GB is suddenly “inept”, Rodgers gets crucified. He isnt playing poorly, but just not up to the rodgers level we have become used to. Now everyone is acting like he’s a “diva” or other nonsense. You know who dealt with the same shhhhtuff last year and many years was ELI. And Eli won with a horrendous oline, injuries out the ying yang and beat Rodgers in playoffs. I don’t mean to digress but all I’m saying is, everyone sees Rodgers as a top 2 QB, yet with the same circumstances as Eli he cannot do the same things. Let alone with a superior team Eli also beat. Giants arent that good this year but Eli is incredible. People are swayed by his body language and horrible Eli faces. He is better than Rodgers and honestly would take him over anyone in the league of the draft was now

Maybe you can loan one of your little league trophies to the Wilfs so they can put one in their empty trophy case. The Metrodome does have a trophy case, doesn`t it?
