The chances of Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks playing against the 49ers are looking better after Nicks was able to practice for the second straight day.
Nicks returned to practice for the first time in two weeks on Thursday and his knee and foot held up well enough for him to be back on the field in a limited fashion on Friday. It’s a good sign for Nicks, who wound up being ruled out early for each of the last two games and it would seem that he’s got a good chance of traveling with the team to San Francisco. If he gets on the plane, you can probably upgrade the likelihood that he will be in the lineup this weekend.
Cornerback Corey Webster, who has been playing with a hand injury in recent weeks, and tackle David Diehl, who hasn’t been playing with a sprained MCL, are also listed as questionable. Tight end Martellus Bennett, who “messed some s--- up” in his knee against the Browns last week, is listed as probable after practicing fully on Friday.
“I’m always good. Unicorn blood,” Bennett, who proclaimed himself a black unicorn earlier this year, said, via Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork.com.
Running back Andre Brown, safety Kenny Phillips and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard have all been ruled out. Bernard’s absence leaves the Giants with three defensive tackles to help their chances of slowing down the 49ers running game.
