Roger Goodell won’t fine him or suspend him because he has turned into a Viking fan. I guess they need some fans considering they’re not getting any in the Metrodome. I can’t wait to be there on the 25th, hopefully a few other Packer fans can join & give the Vikings a hostile environment in their own Stadium & give the Buccaneers a 9th home game.

I once saw a play accidently hit a ref in the head with the football after a play had been blown dead. Flag. But then the flag was picked up when the other officals pointed out it was an accident. No fine. The offender Packer QB Bret F

Strangulation by an official isn’t necessary to get a player away from a conflict. Referee should have flagged his own crew member for unprofessional conduct. He apologized to a guy that throat grabbed him. I wouldn’t. I’d demand he be reprimanded.

The notion that officials are untouchable is probably the only one undermined in this instance … unless there was anyone on earth whose perception is skewed to the point where they think Roger is anything even remotely close to consistent in the punishments he metes out. They ought to be cured now.

And Atlanta head coach Mike Smith was fined nothing for grabbing an official two weeks ago.

And Bill Bellichek gets fined nothing for his weekly spewing of obscenities toward the referees every Sunday. Not at all hard to lip read on TV.

He didnt shove an official, he shrugged one off who was aggressively shoving him.

Frankly, I think the reason there was no fine is because the official was out of line. It will be interesting to see if Smith is further targeted by the officials this season.

Nice job of lawyering the wager you made with Paul Allen the other day Mike. You bet him the amount of the fine that he’d be fined by the league. You lost the bet, but didn’t lose any money.

It seems to me the league definitely bought his explanation that he didn’t know he was shoving an official. I don’t have any problem with the lack of fine based on the circumstances.

He got bounced for 3/4ths of the game. That’s nearly a one game suspension right there. Smith looked like he was merely trying to disengage from the Ref. It’s not the same as Belichick, who ran after the official when the game was over and tried to grab him.

If you watched the game you would know Roger Goodell was at the game in the crowd, so im sure he got a good view of what happened.

Let’s see… Smith apologized immediately to the ref and then publicly, saying he did wrong and expected to be punished.

Belichick said the opposite.

I guess sincere contrition matters.

Did you watch the play? Ref had his hands in the neck/face area of Smith and had drove him 8 yards before Smith shucked him to the side. NOT shoved, in the sense that he grabbed him and pushed him. While it was a stupid move to touch the ref at all, getting suspended for 41 minutes was clearly enough of a punishment for a debatable ejection. They should really considering ejecting players for halves.

Perhaps the NFL took note of the official randomly pulling him out of a group of players by his neck.

Maybe they were rewarding the first contrite words out of a players mouth in years.

Interesting regardless. This guy might be one of the more under appreciated players in the league so far this year. He’s bringing back an old school style of play at safety. I’d argue few safeties in the league bring the wood like he does.

More than likely they watched the tape and saw he hardly touched the ref. In fact the ref made contact the entire time by pushing Smith 10 yards from the play.
