The Jets wanted to believe.

But reason eventually overcame.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said that cornerback Darrelle Revis would have surgery next week to repair his torn ACL, and would go on injured reserve, according to Jane McManus of ESPNNewYork.com.

Ryan said the longer it went, the more they realized he wasn’t going to be back in time for the Super Bowl, or any other game this year.

I was holding out hope but the more information we got, realized that wouldn’t be good for Darrelle either,” Ryan said.

That gives them a roster spot to fill, but also reminds them of the spot they’re in, and the likelihood that they’re not going to be playing long enough to enable a February comeback anyway.
