Steelers rookie Alameda Ta’amu arrested for drunk driving

Steelers rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu has been arrested after an early-morning crash in which police say he drove drunk, crashed into several vehicles and attempted to flee.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ta’amu was seen driving recklessly at about 2:30 a.m., and that when police tried to stop him, he fled. He was stopped only after he crashed his vehicle into several others.

Ta’amu is facing felony counts of fleeing police, aggravated assault while driving drunk and three counts of aggravated assault, plus 10 misdemeanors, including resisting arrest, attempting escape, drunken driving and failure to obey traffic laws.

The Steelers took Ta’amu out of Washington in the fourth round of this year’s draft. Ta’amu has yet to play in the regular season.

  1. A 360 pound guy tries to run away, theres a laugh.

But seriously, they should cut this turd and cut him now.

    – Steeler fan who was super excited when we got him 6 months ago

  2. IDIOT. Hasn’t played yet and probably not going to for the rest of the season after this. You’re a Steeler, not a Lion or a Jet or even a Raven. Which means that you’re on your way out. Too bad you don’t play for any of these other teams I mentioned cause you’re the kind of IDIOT they love having on their roster.

  3. Good thing the law isn’t as in favor of the Steelers as the refs have always been or this world would be chaos.

  4. Unfortunately, Coach Mike Tomlin is losing control of this team. The Steelers’ lead the league in penalties, his players are suspended by the league, players getting on Twitter blasting the fans and now a very serious DUI. Time to crack the WHIP MT

  5. Man, I was so jacked up about our draft – with us landing DeCastro, Adams, Spence, Ta’amu and Rainey.

    But what’s happened?

DeCastro is put on I.R. before game 1. It’s the I.R. with the exception where he *might* be able to play in week 9, but we’ll see. And it was obviously NOT DeCastro’s fault in how he got hurt. Still loving this guy.

Adams: underwhelming is the word that comes to mind. I hope he can develop … a lot.

Spence: I.R.’d before week 1. Another promising athlete — who was injured through no fault of his own.

Ta’amu: his only headlines are driving drunk and recklessly, multiple counts of aggravated assault and a lonnnng list of criminal charges. His play on the field has been non-existent — literally. At least we have Big Snack and McClendon holding down the fort.

Rainey: shows some promise here and there — still waiting on Rainey to light it up.

  6. Steeler fan here. Man when it rains, it pours, now don’t it?

Common topic is the average age and drop of production from the defense. One opinion is that the young’uns just aren’t getting ready in time to take the torch, and the graybeards are expiring too soon. I’m starting to agree with that opinion.

Throw in the lack of recent drafts turning into regular starters, and a badly needed youthful boost for the D-Line fails to make the field (but manages to make the police blotter) and you got me giving a pretty gloomy outlook on the season.

Mister Ta’amu, I do believe the proper technical term for this is EPIC FAIL. Nice beard, though.

I think the Arrest-O-Meter should be reset each day for the next five days for this one.

  8. At first I didn’t read through to see all of the additional felony charges. We really don’t need any more turds in the league. I believe we’re already turd-saturated and looking to cut down.

    Turd’amu, welcome to unemployment.

Wow…brilliant! On the night before a game even!

Wow – brilliant……the steelers played on Thursday night.

FYI I am in no way condoning his behavior and choices.

  10. I saw this guy take like 30 shots at the bar last week and leave on his own. When i read this story, i was not surprised.

Thank you for not ratting him out … and maybe saving him from destroying him life and possibly even killing someone.

    Yeah, that was sarcasm.

  12. Let’s be honest, this guy would have been undrafted if he didn’t have a cool name. Put it this way…. you’re a GM and have to choose between one of three lineman…. Alameda Ta’amu, and lets give the two others examples generic names like, errmm.. Jason Smith and.. uhhh.. Justin Smith.

Who would you draft? I’m drafting the one with the cool name.

  14. He was just trying to fit in with that Western PA fanbase. It was either get a DUI or start dating his cousin.

Not surprised about this though, the steeler roster is full of turds.

  15. And we talk about the bounty gate huh? DUIs are the real issue in this league. Why don’t Roger weigh in on this one. I mean he did injure a lady in this incident. Oh I forgot Donte Stallworth got away with it, so nothing will happen to this guy.

  16. Well- he might have managed to stay with the team if he just been arrested for DUI; it’s a whole new bag when you run from the police, slam into cars, try to haul your heavy ass away like Usain Bolt while trying to leave the scene of the accident and finally trying to fight off cops who multiply with every swing you take until you’re Rodney King*.

At that point you’ve managed to be most-likely cut by the drafted you and simultaneously alienated any potential with other teams in the process. Except, of course BAL or NE, who seem to snatch up a lot of our castaways.

*No disrespect to Rodney or his family. I’m sorry your loss. R.I.P. Mr King. Maybe in heave we can “..all get along”…
