Denver makes a game of it after disastrous start in San Diego

Usually, when the score is 24-0 at halftime, that means the rout is on. For the Broncos tonight in San Diego, it meant it was time to start warming up.

In a disastrous first half, the Broncos fell behind the Chargers 24-0. But everything started going right for Denver in the second half, and the Broncos have made it a game early in the fourth quarter.

Peyton Manning engineered an outstanding eight-play, 85-yard drive to start the first half, a drive that culminated with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas. And when Broncos defensive back Tony Carter picked up a Philip Rivers fumble and raced 65 yards for a touchdown, all of a sudden it was 24-14 in the third quarter.

And then early in the fourth Manning engineered another outstanding drive that ended with another touchdown pass, this time to Eric Decker. It’s now 24-21, and all the momentum belongs to the Broncos.

Start warming yourselves up, Broncos fans. The Colts fans can tell you all about wasting your time in the evening against the Chargers.

Denver will be a very good team if they find a way to play for a full 4 qtrs.

Old news for us chatter fans. I expected a collapse. Just the life of a charger fan

  5. jimthebuilder27 says: Oct 15, 2012 11:09 PM

Don’t like Manning but I HATE the Chargers. Can’t sell out their home games, constantly underachieve, fight with players rather than negotiate with them and tolerate incompetence (AJ Smith and Norv Turner anyone?)

  6. claytep says: Oct 15, 2012 11:10 PM

    good ass Monday night game….

  8. harryglyphics says: Oct 15, 2012 11:13 PM

Said it before and I’ll say it again: As a Saints fan, I would rather have an interim-imterim-imterim coach than Norv turner as a head coach.

Phillip Rivers takes his rivalry with Peyton Manning so seriously that after Manning threw an early interception, River responded by turning over the ball 3 times as much as Manning this game (2 INTs, 1 lost fumble).

Cut Jeromey Clary!!! Gives up too many sacks, start mike harris over their when Gaither comes back!!! Sick of that man

Peyton can’t catch a break. Worst offensive penalty call ever

  19. eventhorizon04 says: Oct 15, 2012 11:36 PM

Update: Phillip Rivers is owning Manning in the turnover battle, 5 to 1.

4 INTs including a pick six plus a lost fumble after beginning the second half with a 24 – 0 lead.

  20. siknutty says: Oct 15, 2012 11:38 PM

Silly fairweather charger fans. You talked do much crap assuming the game was over. You got schooled by a far better qb than the one on your sideline.

  21. doe22us says: Oct 15, 2012 11:38 PM

    what a comeback wow.

  24. pharmnetrx says: Oct 15, 2012 11:41 PM

35 unanswered points by Denver… Geez. I had actually stopped watching around half time and assumed the Chargers were gonna blow out the Broncos.

  25. xsfmed says: Oct 15, 2012 11:42 PM

Philip Rivers, your tears are so sweet!

  26. mattypbillsmafia says: Oct 15, 2012 11:43 PM

Why does gruden keep calling Peyton “the sheriff”? I have never heard anyone else reference Manning as “the sheriff”. Can we agree that this Monday night crew is the most annoying crew covering the NFL? I mean at least Simms and collinsworth have decent partners… Espn sucks…

  27. bdub2511 says: Oct 15, 2012 11:46 PM

Unlike the chargers fans, I’ll wait till the game is in the books to call it… WOW… that was an incredible second half comeback. Go Broncos.

  28. thedefinitiveman says: Oct 15, 2012 11:47 PM

Rivers is going to need rename himself Vick or Cutler after this horror showing…

  29. truths4all says: Oct 15, 2012 11:47 PM

Does anyone really think Rivers is a top tier NFL QB? How about the Chargers being a real contender to win the division?

Can’t see either one and if the window closing talk is appropriate for the Cowboys, then it looks like the Chargers have had their storm windows nailed and bolted shut by Father Time and the rest of the NFL.

And just think, the Chargers kicked out Drew Brees to keep Rivers! That’s like drafting Sam Bowie ahead of Jordan because Jordan was not good enough to be a starter over the players they already had on the Blazers’ roster.

Enjoy your week, Charger fan. Your season just collapsed. Biggest choke job ever.

  31. will447 says: Oct 15, 2012 11:51 PM

Rivers should be taking notes from Peyton about performing when the pressure is on. I’m a die hard Charger fan, but they buckle under pressure.

  32. davikes says: Oct 15, 2012 11:52 PM

And the Chargers annual collapse began precisely at halftime tonight. Norv, is your chair warm?

  33. vegaskid21 says: Oct 15, 2012 11:57 PM

    LoL at Rivers

It’s over Broncos. No amount of Hocchuli’s or Manning’s can save you tonight.

    Go Chargers!!!

  35. dannymac17 says: Oct 16, 2012 1:05 AM

    absolutely disgusting.

  36. soforizo says: Oct 16, 2012 1:27 AM

    Any crow leftover??

  38. lobzila says: Oct 16, 2012 3:47 AM

Another Mission Valley Meltdown! Rivers is making how many million per year to play like that? Norv, here is a clue, when up by 24 points, it not enough, get more points. Every other team in the league adjusts there game at halftime, why cant you? How about sacking Manning once or twice to rattle the guy a bit. I am trying real hard to still be a fan, but when you have a game like this, I might well be a Raider fan and lose with dignity!
On a positive note, Ryan Matthews did not fumble or do too bad tonight.

I think this pertains to tge chargers more, its not how you start a game, its how you finish. Not gonna take the win away from my broncos but the chargers flat out laid an egg second half.
