Suggs could return to practice this week

350x-3

The Ravens got plenty of bad news from an injury standpoint on Sunday, with linebacker Ray Lewis (triceps) possibly lost for the season, cornerback Lardarius Webb (ACL) possibly lost for the season, and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (knee) possibly gone for a week or two. But the 5-1 AFC North leaders could get some much-needed good news this week.

During one of the various web videos Peter King and yours truly record early in the second half of the Sunday night game, King said that linebacker Terrell Suggs possibly will return to practice this week.

He’s on the reserve/non-football injury list, which requires him to miss the first six weeks of the season. Since Week Six will conclude tonight, a three-week window will open for Suggs and all other players on the NFI list or the Physically Unable to Perform list to return to practice.

If/when Suggs returns to practice, another three-week window will open, during which he either must be elevated to the active roster or placed on a season-ending reserve list.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the date on which Suggs will be able to play. With Lewis and Webb both possibly done for the season, the sooner the Ravens get the 2011 NFL defensive player of the year back, the better.
