Only Felix Baumgartner has fallen farther, faster than Chris Williams.

The former Bears first-rounder has lost a starting job, a spot on the gameday roster, and now his roster spot in the first six weeks of the season.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears have released Williams.

Williams hasn’t started a game this year after losing a competition with J’Marcus Webb for the starting left tackle job. And he hasn’t been active the previous two games.

Williams was the 14th overall pick in the 2008 Draft out of Vanderbilt, but he never approached that status.

With so many teams looking for line help, you have to think Williams will find work, but his inability to crack a Bears line that isn’t exactly dominant makes you wonder whether he can keep that inevitable job once he finds it.
