Haloti Ngata, Jimmy Smith miss practice for Ravens

Dallas Cowboys v Baltimore Ravens Getty Images

As the Ravens try to retain their grip on the No. 2 spot in the league without No. 52 or No. 21, they had to practice on Wednesday without two of their other key defensive players.

Defensive lineman Haloti Ngata, who stayed in Sunday’s game despite an MCL sprain (take that, Cutler) missed practice on Wednesday.  Though Ngata’s not expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Texans, the situation should be monitored closely.

Even more troubling is the fact that cornerback Jimmy Smith missed practice with an abdominal injury.  He’ll the replacement for cornerback Lardarius Webb, who’s out for the year with a torn ACL.

Also missing practice was defensive lineman Ma’ake Kemoeatu, who also has a knee injury.  Tackle Bryant McKinnie was limited with a thigh injury.

The Ravens face the Texans on Sunday in a battle of the only two AFC teams who have won more games than they have lost.

    They’re lucky to be 5-1 anyway…

Bryant Mckinnie has an injury to his thigh? How in heck can you injure fat?

Ain’t gonna be pretty for the Ravens in Houston…
Who will step up, will any body be healthy enough to.

Well… at least we still have Flacco and Rice.

Its not going to be rough in Houston, the Ravens are big boys they can hold there own…….

It’ll still take half the AFC at least 2-3 weeks to get up to the 5 win mark. Regroup! Come back to fight another day. As a Ravens fan, I don’t have high hopes for Sunday. It just looks like too big a hill to climb right now. But, there are good players on the practice squad, maybe some vet FA’s who can help. Suggs will come back. Losing Ray hurts, but losing Webbie is brutal. Best DB by far (saying something b/c Reed is still on the team) on the team. Have we lost too many guys to be competitive? Only time will tell and this Sun may be the ugliest it gets & build it up from there. But, on any given Sunday……!

Yeah two guys missing a practice on a Wednesday, one who is playing on Sunday for sure, at week 6 is really going to sink the Ravens ship…

Every team has players miss practice, duh.

Eagles beat the Ravens with all of the over hyped stars. Welcome to 7-9 cry babies!

The excuses are starting already from a fan base quick t o call it on everyone else. Suck it up…… 5-1 now soon to be 5-2, then 5-3 etc. over rated and very lucky so far. Karma…..

So what are the odds of allowing another 200 yd rushing game?

Let’s see…. 214 yards rushing given up against Kansas City. 222 yards rushing given up against Dallas. Both with a healthy Nata. I can’t wait to see Foster and Tate break the 300 yard mark. Heck Foster may have that on his own. Marshmallow soft run D. Sprinkle that in with the loss of Webb who in my opinion is under rated, and the purple browns may finish with a worse D than the orange browns.

The Jimmy Smith injury should be a concern given their sudden depth issues at corner, that said its early in the week.

Ngata should be fine. Big dudes tend to be better suited to play with knee injuries (looking at you Mr. DeCastro).

    Either way – Houston 29 – Baltimore 20

Ravens finish 12-4, 1-1 vs. Steelers, 4-0 against rest of the division. AFC North Champs.

The rare self-quote! I figured I’d just clarify before I get nailed.

I am a Steelers fan – when mentioning DeCastro I wasn’t implying that he is the caliber of player tha Ngata is. Just that he has a knee injury and I want him to get better.

    As you were everyone.

The steelers are garbage. All the yinzers have to look forward to now is talking trash about a team superior to theirs. With no hockey and the steelers season over already, what is the so called “city of champions” going to do? Can’t wait to see Cincy stomp this sorry team Sunday night. AJ Green is gonna have a field day with Ike Taylor.

Lovie Smith, after that NFC Championship Game:

“As far as Jay, Jay didn’t take himself out of the game. If you’re going to attack somebody, you should be attacking me. As a head football coach, and our medical staff, we’re the ones … he wanted to go back in. He was injured and went back in in the second half. So I see it as the complete opposite of how it’s being portrayed right now.”

    Olin Kreutz said:

“I didn’t even think he was going to finish the half,” Kreutz said. “When he came back to try it again, that amazed me. It was shaking right after he took the hit and walked back in the huddle. It was swinging like this [waving his hand back and forth].

So I knew one of his ligaments probably went. I can’t remember exactly what play it was. I know it was the second quarter. I remember him walking in the huddle, and I saw it shaking like this. I said, ‘Ah, man.’”

    And more from Lovie:

“He was hurt, and he couldn’t go,” Smith said. “Trainers, doctors and all, they are the ones who really made that decision. As far as Jay he is like everyone else; he was disappointed he couldn’t go out and play to help his team win.”

Bottom line, Cutler’s injury was an MCL tear, while Ngata’s injury is less severe, the Ravens are calling it a ‘minor tweak.’

Right, Webb is underrated. Dude has the most INTs since the beginning of last year, came up HUGE in the Playoffs and was starting to earn the shutdown tag. There’s a reason why Cary Williams got picked on, because you couldn’t really throw on Lardarius.

The Ravens defense these days is the epitome of bend but don’t break. 26th in yardage allowed, but 11th in points allowed. That’s all that REALLY matters, though right? The one with the most points wins.

    Ravens D 19.7 ppg
    Steelers D 23 ppg

    What now, tough guy?

  22. dontstabmeray says: Oct 17, 2012 6:53 PM

I have Arian Foster on my fantasy team. He should put up 300+ yards on that pathetic defense. This is gonna be fun.

  23. ravenator says: Oct 17, 2012 7:21 PM

Funny all the hate coming towards a team that consistently wins. Correct me if I’m wrong, Ravens are one of two teams with winning records. Tell me again, what’s the steelers record?

  24. ravenscrap says: Oct 17, 2012 7:26 PM

Old, slow broken down losers – as the nest burns!!!!!

  25. yourteamstinks says: Oct 17, 2012 7:32 PM

Ravens fans are always talking about having haters. What is to hate? All they seem to do is lose in the playoffs to the Steelers. Exception being losing to the Patriots last year. LOL

  26. ravensallday2012 says: Oct 17, 2012 7:33 PM

The funny thing is all the hating on ravens def..but yet know love for flacco and what he has done to keep the team 5-1. While Pitt is 2-3. All the comments are too funny and the jealousy is great. Keep it coming steeler fans…losers

  27. descendency says: Oct 17, 2012 7:54 PM

    Still better than the Steelers.

  28. stuartscottslefteye says: Oct 17, 2012 7:56 PM

Ravens play 500 ball the rest of the way they end up 10-6; not a bad spot to be in.

  29. flyeredup says: Oct 17, 2012 8:25 PM

Vick punked Joke Fluke-o. Joe is the most overhyped overrated QB in the NFL. 7-9 Gayvens.

  30. yinzgotsix says: Oct 17, 2012 9:20 PM

yourteamstinks: I’d much rather lose to NE in the AFC championship game than lose to TEBOW in the WC round. Yinz made history that day. LOL.

  31. jamaltimore says: Oct 17, 2012 9:25 PM

The Ravens aren’t old and don’t count out the defense quite yet. Flacco had a great game (regular season) against Texans last year and will do so again. big games for 81,27, 82 and 88.

BTW, we are talking about the Texans a team that consistently finds a way to lose when it matters. Ravens defense will step up and I know lightning may hit me when I write this but the defense will be different without Ray. There will be pluses and minuses.

Houston you have a problem come Sunday.

  32. mf8590 says: Oct 17, 2012 9:46 PM

Let me know when the ratbirds win a game in January that counts.

  33. ravenboy4lyfe says: Oct 17, 2012 10:24 PM

To all you raven haters you forgot we have flacco, rice, pitta, leach, boldin the beast, torrey, jones, and dickson our offense will lead us we had one bad game against kc but what team didnt yall haters never give our offense credit they will lead us and our D will do enough we did go 4-0 without lewis last year with a shakey offense and our offense is way better this year so just watch a real teams step up when they need to and ravens always do!

It’s amazing how as the RAVENS just keep dominating the NFL, all these fans of crap teams keep trolling our news articles. steeler fans, your team is done, over, old, washed up, finished, hurt and geriatric. bengal fans, your team never was ANYTHING! You are most famous for the allowing Joe Montana to have the greatest drive in Super Bowl history. Browns fans… I don’t even have to say anything…

The RAVENS will just keep winning. The only AFCN team that stands a chance at a lombardi is the mighty RAVENS. Get on our level!

  35. ravenscheatathome says: Oct 18, 2012 7:17 AM

Ravens win games at home because other teams can’t beat the 13 man at there home the refs always help them out if it was not for there refs @ home the only team they would have beat would be the bangals and on the road they have to have the other team f-up to help them out. The Ravens are a sorry team! oh and no matter how you look @ it purple is a girls color…..

  36. randallflagg52 says: Oct 18, 2012 1:32 PM

    @ravenscheatathome

Take off that tin foil hat dude, there is no conspircy going on here. The Ravens don’t just win at home, they win everywhere. Get on our level.
