Not really. Super Bowls are the measurement of success in the current NFL as we know it. There have been changes and realignments over the years, but since the consolidation of leagues and implementation of Super Bowls, things have been pretty consistent overall. The sport existed before SBs, but wasn’t really fully formed.

Like it or not, this is the standard of measurement. Everyone considers Super Bowls, however distant or recent, as part of the living tradition of their team, going all the way back to SB I. Anything before that is past the line of relevance. Eagles don’t get an exception to that.

And if Super Bowls have no value after they’re won, you’ve just invalidated the entire premise of the football season.

Sorry, pal – best to just accept that the Eagles come up empty in the most important criteria. Just the way it is. They’ll overcome it some day; too much talent is always around that team for it to not happen eventually. Not much point in trying to devalue the achievement ahead of time.

2011 – No one to play S or LB
2012 – Add Ryans at LB and expect that to fix everything?

It’s like they are playing Madden and pick the best guys at the glamour positions on D and then have to fill out the rest of the roster with minimum salary.

The Eagles have 3 championships. A championship is just as valid as a Cowboys Super Bowl. They are both long in the past, and have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with 2012.

Honestly, what does the Cowboys winning a SB in the early 90s do to affect the 2012 Cowboys? How does it make them a better team this year than any other team? It doesnt. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

The Eagles have quite a good team. They just have an inept HC and OC. And dreadful special teams.

If some yahoo didnt call passing plays with less than 3 minutes to go last week, the Eagles run the clock down to the 2 minute warning, and the Lions dont have enough time to drive slowly down the field like they did.

At the same time, some yahoo took Nnamdi off of Megatron, and it killed us. Nnamdi did fantastic in man coverage on the guy I think is the best receiver in the NFL right now.

Not so easy to be a 12th-ranked defense when you’re constantly having to march back onto the field to overcome turnovers and hold opposing teams under 17 points per game.

Castillo wasn’t qualified for the job, but was still given the job – that’s a management problem, which goes straight to Reid and Lurie.

Add to that the playcalling and special teams issues you mention, and I think we’re sitting at five or more glaring issues that aren’t being addressed. And to make it worse, most of those issues have predated Castillo’s assignment.

Lurie has benefited from Donovan McNubb and Coach Porky Pigus bonding well enough that the huge shortcomings of McNubb could be mitigated through an offensive scheme of smoke and mirrors. Now that the sloath and idiot McNubb is nowhere, suddenly Porky Pigus is looking like he is out in his own field and the team is disintegrating.

Lurie made this bed and he should be forced to start accepting he is part of the failure. When his team had a chance to win a Super Bowl, all of its weaknesses were exposed – horrible QB – bad coach – and a weak and thin team. And every one of these players have a signature on their paycheck – Lurie’s.

they had a 10 pt lead with 5 to play on Sunday and lost. The had a 2 pt lead and 5 to play, and had the Steelers on the 10 yard line and 1st and 20, and lost.

the D has been a huge problem since Jim Johnson died. Castillo never should have been the D Coordinator. He had to go.

I do agree that there are other problems (playcalling, special teams, Vick’s turnovers) but to make a snide comment like that is just dumb.

Look, Reid is a good coach, he would go to Buffalo or KC and do really well, I have no doubt.

The fact is that he has had 14 years here. It’s time to move on. I’m not bashing him, he’s been one of if not the best coaches the Eagles ever had. But he has not won a Superbowl. He is 1-4 in NFC Championship games, and all but 1 of those losses his team was the favorite going in.

He needs a fresh start somewhere, and the Eagles need a fresh voice. This should be Reid’s last year, as well as Marty M, Bobby April, Mudd, Washburn, GM Howie Roseman. Lurie needs to clean house, get a strong GM and strong coach and build on the talent that is on this team.

Vick needs to go too.

All coaches’ time runs out eventually wherever they are coaching – it’s the nature of the game. But Reid will be a highly sought after commodity if he gets the boot from Philly. My guess would be Cleveland.

Reid is emotionally burnt out. It is a safe bet he takes a year off from coaching to catch his breath from coaching this long and complete the grieving process of losing a son. He’s earned a break.

IF everyone would have left Ried alone to do his job, Philly would be over 500 and probably winning NFC championships like he did that one time —–

Says you. This is an opinion (and a bad one) not a fact. Reid has had 13 years to get the job done and he has failed. The Eagles’ average record since 2005 is 9-7. Not good enough. The Eagles have played sloppy, lazy, uninspired football for the last two years as well.

Why should Lurie get flack for this? Tom Coughlin handled coaching for his job in 2007 (and maybe 2011) very well. If Reid and the players can’t handle this then they were never going to accomplish the goal anyways.

The Eagles look the same as last year when there wasn’t any statements from Lurie. Nothing has changed in two years and comments from the owner hasn’t made them turn the ball over, fail to block anybody, and blow two more 4th quarter leads.
