How well is rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill playing for the Dolphins? Well enough to draw very high praise from his offensive coordinator.
“He’s ahead of where I thought he’d be,’' Mike Sherman said, via David Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I always want him to be better and better. But he’s doing things now you expect in the fifth or sixth year for a quarterback.”
The guy who quickly is becoming the franchise’s best quarterback since Dan Marino reminds Sherman of another Miami Hall of Famer.
“He’s off-the-charts smart,’' Sherman said. “He’s a Bob Griese-type of quarterback mentally.”
Sherman compared Tannehill to another Hall of Famer which whom Sherman, the former Packers head coach, is somewhat familiar. “He doesn’t hold onto the previous play,’' Sherman said. “Brett Favre was the same way. He wasn’t worried about the last interception. After an interception, a lot of guys are hoping you call a run. He wants to pass.”
The fact that Tannehill has done so well after only six games makes us wonder where he’ll be after 12 games. And, of course, that twelfth game will pit Tannehill for the first time against Bill Belichick and the Patriots. We’ve already circled that one on the Week 13 schedule.
