Two interceptions help Antrel Rolle pick off defensive player of the week

As a unit, the Giants defense had a very good day in Sunday’s 26-3 win over the 49ers.

Now one of the members has been recognized for his individual work in the victory. Safety Antrel Rolle has been named the NFC defensive player of the week as a result of his play in San Francisco.

Rolle intercepted 49ers quarterback Alex Smith on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter, helping set the Giants up for a pair of field goals that extended their lead and pushed the possibility of a 49ers comeback from unlikely to impossible. Rolle, who had been slowed in recent weeks by a knee injury suffered when he ran into a camera against the Panthers in Week Three, added six tackles in a game that saw the Giants defense play the best that it has all season.

Rolle will try to keep things rolling against the Redskins this week. He had plenty of praise for rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III earlier this week, which should mean he’ll bring his A-game with him on Sunday.

Well deserved. Hopefully the rest of the Giants D will step up to Rolle’s level…. some rezone offense would be nice too..

Thank you Antrel for a great game and for, finally, NOT saying something stupid before the next game. Keep playing like that AND praising opponents, instead of firing them up needlessly, and you will quickly become a NY legend.

Not a shocker! As long as Antrel is allowed to play his natural position and not be a hybrid safety/cornerback,he will continue to be one of the top safeties in the league.Congrats Antrel!!!Go Blue!!!!
