Defense reigns as Seahawks take lead in San Francisco

The battle for first place in the NFC West is a defensive struggle.

Through 30 minutes of football, the scoring has been nothing but field goals, and the Seahawks have taken a 6-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The fans in San Francisco booed as their team left the field at the end of the second quarter, and the pressure on 49ers quarterback Alex Smith may be mounting. Although Smith has avoided any interceptions, he’s just 7-for-15 for 59 yards. Fortunately for the 49ers, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t been able to get much going, either, completing six of 13 passes for 103 yards.

This may be the kind of game in which one big play from either quarterback is enough to make the difference. At halftime we’ve had zero big plays from either quarterback.

Golden Tate seemed like he wanted a pass interference called on that deep pass.

The DB covering was asked about it just before half time and answered “I don’t know whatcha talkin’ about.”

Mark it, Hawks are for real brother.

When did it become legal again to hold, face mask, and run picks in the nfl?

Why does Goodell want the Seahawks to win that bad ?

A couple missed opportunities on big plays for Seattle. Completely different game if Turbin and Tate make those catches.

The officials are ALMOST as bad as the replacements. Alex Smith’s helmet is nearly removed by way of his facemask that would’ve put the 49ers in FG range with a 1st and 10…but went uncalled.

San Francisco booing their own team will take its toll on Alex Smith more than people realize. That kind of really stuff affects him. Great game.

    Boring
Refs missing some easy calls on Seachickens
Face mask and Sherman mugging Moss and Crabtree way beyond
    the 5 yd limit
    Boring

The Seahawks unis are so ugly, they look like they got them out of the clearance aisle at Old Navy.

Funny 49er fans booing their team. That should help their players a lot!

Can’t win the big one unless you have a QB
    And neither team has one!!

This isn’t your fathers NFL anymore.

    You know… I dont hate the niners…
    Do I think they’re way over-rated?
    Yes.
When they beat a few good teams they should be considered an elite team.
    Until then…. Not so much.
I’m not buying the NFL’s standard narrative that makes them a team to beat.
They’ve always been over-rated as far as I’m concerned.

This is like watching paint dry. It reminds me of that crappy Superbowl the Ravens won. More scoring please. Yes I do not care what football was back in the day because it was boring back then.

  18. steelers4385 says: Oct 18, 2012 10:58 PM

I like how the niners have taken vernon davis completley out of the offense.

lmao the nba is one of the most boring sports to watch not quite the joke as baseball is omg I can’t wait til king nfl kills the mlb!! The nfl is by far the most fun to watch and the greatest sport!! even the worst Nfl game is still 1000 times more fun to watch and entertaining than the nba championship game and the mlb world series(mlb is a Joke of a so called sport)

These refs suck, if the replacement refs were in this game it would be news, but the real refs keep getting a pass on their mistakes.

  23. daaabears says: Oct 18, 2012 11:18 PM

Gore is hurt and not playing. If that’s Cutler, everyone is yelling he’s a quitter.

  24. lolo376 says: Oct 18, 2012 11:22 PM

Wonder if Sherman still says that the Seahawks are a champonship team after only getting 6 Points?! Seahawks are over rated!

  25. sweetnlow44 says: Oct 18, 2012 11:23 PM

High-low? How is hitting the guy in the chest considered low? Bring back the replacements.

  26. mrcogburn says: Oct 18, 2012 11:23 PM

Mike Mayock makes Thu Night Football unwatchable. Could they not find a guy without a speech impediment?! The man is a graduate of Lou Holtz’ School of Unintelligible Broadcasting.

Gamblers will not be happy with Harbough. Hahaha.

  28. joe2jerry says: Oct 18, 2012 11:54 PM

The Niners won ugly, but it’s unfair to call them overrated after this. The Seahawks were 4-2 with a great D and beat the AFC Super Bowl and arguably the best qb last week.

  29. seahawksbmx says: Oct 19, 2012 12:47 AM

I’ll give ya that Mayock can sometimes sound like Sylvester the cat, but to me there’s not a more astute color commentator out there. Immediately after a play ends, he’ll take his pen and diagram the key part that made the play (Iupati making a great pulling block from his LG position) or didn’t make the play (Tate lackadaisically missing a block on a WR screen). His breakdown of the Beastquake run vs. the Saints is legendary (“Get OFF me…”).

They just beat the team that beat the “Best” team in the entire league. What more do you want?

  31. jibberator says: Oct 19, 2012 3:18 AM

Whats with all the missed calls against the Seahawks? It seems almost as if the refs were playing for them…So many PIs, facemask on Alex, poor spotting on critical downs. The Hawks are def a great team…at playing dirty! I hope officiating goes against them one of these days.

Seahawk and 49er fans are obviously in denial.

Neither team will go where they want to go with their QB.
