Dolphins linebacker Koa Misi, who was accused of breaking into a man’s apartment in Isla Vista, California, and beating him up, has pleaded no contest to felony battery with serious bodily injury.
The Associated Press reports that Misi broke down an apartment door and attacked a 19-year-old man whom Misi claimed had yelled an insult at him from the apartment’s balcony. The Santa Barbara Independent reports that the victim suffered a fractured orbital socket.
As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop two other felony charges, burglary and dissuading a witness.
Misi will avoid jail time and be sentenced to probation, anger management classes and 400 hours of community service. The judge is expected to reduce Misi’s conviction to a misdemeanor. Misi has already paid the victim $42,000 in restitution and has agreed to pay him additional money for medical bills.
Misi has started all six games for the Dolphins this season. There is no word yet on whether he will be suspended for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.
