Jason Witten: If you don’t believe we can win the Super Bowl, get out

Dallas Cowboys tight end Witten is unable to make the catch after bobbling the football during the fourth quarter of their NFL football game against the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle, Washington Reuters

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has two words for anyone in Dallas who doesn’t believe they can win the Super Bowl: Get out.

Asked on the Ben & Skin Show about Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saying they can win the Super Bowl this year, Witten said that’s what everyone in the Cowboys’ locker room should believe.

Yeah, every man in this room should believe that,” Witten said, via ESPNDallas.com. “If you don’t, get out of here. But you have to go prove it every week. A lot of games we’ve done good things and a lot of things we have to improve on. Absolutely. Did the Giants think it at 7-7? That’s the way this league goes. I’m not saying that’s the formula for doing it. You have to still win games. Let’s get it corrected. We feel we have the men in this room who can do it. Now you have to go show it.”

Witten said he appreciates Jones’s attitude.

“I think he’s trying to be optimistic,” Witten said. “I think he watches the tape and sees that we’re doing a lot of good things. I don’t think it’s more than that. I don’t think he’s trying to build us up or anything like that.”

So there’s plenty of optimism to go around in Dallas right now. A loss to the Panthers on Sunday would probably change that.

I know a lot of Cowboy haters will come on here and say that the Cowboys don’t have a chance, and maybe they don’t, but I’m glad there is someone on my favorite team that actually has pride in his work. Jason Witten will always be my favorite Cowboys because he works hard, is a warrior, and bleeds blue and silver.

As long as Jerry is the Cowboys GM;the only way the cowboys are in the Super Bowl is if they buy a ticket.Jerry, hire a coach and Gm then work the finances as an owner and leave the football to football people.

This Cowboys team absolutely beat the Ravens up and down the field last Sunday. They out physical’d the “most physical” D in the league. They lost the game because of some inconsistency in the passing game, and MOST IMPORTANTLY because after they battled for close to 60 minutes they asked their kicker to come in the game and simply do what he’s paid to do; make the field goal. He failed, and the team lost a game in which they clearly outplayed their opponent. That happens sometimes in football, but it seems to happen more often to this incarnation of the Dallas Cowboys. I like to Cowboys. I like Jason Witten, and Sean Lee and Dez Bryant is an incredible if inconsistent talent, blah, blah, blah… but there is something off here. Sorry Witten, but I do not believe this team can win a SB. I hope you prove me wrong…

Long time Cowboys fan, but if they don’t play any better in the near future, this season will be over. They better win this weekend, because the next three games after are tough.

I’m a Giant fan and have no love at all for the Cowboys. But Witten is 1000% right, the players should believe they can go to the SB. Players should always have more belief in itsself more than ousiders do.

That’s completely different than thinking they will actually make the SB. But maybe Bennett will give them some of his SB tickets.

I was wondering when I was going to get my weekly “we’re better than the vast majority think” article from Witten on the state of the Cowboys.

    Until next time…

  38. zack2482 says: Oct 19, 2012 12:15 PM

    Ninerdynasty,

Quiet down over there. Alex Smith isn’t a good QB. Your team would be a dominant force with Romo as your QB.

  39. dowhatifeellike says: Oct 19, 2012 12:15 PM

I believe they can… there aren’t any rules expressly prohibiting it… but will they? Ha. No.

Harbaugh would eviscerate Romo by halftime of the first game.

  44. zack2482 says: Oct 19, 2012 12:53 PM

Yes he would take Romo out because he would have thrown 3 TD’s and a back up would be in to take the rest of the 4th quarter garbage time.

  45. bigblue00 says: Oct 19, 2012 12:55 PM

You’ll never win the Super Bowl if your first concern isn’t your next game. (That and if your owner can’t keep his mouth shut causing distractions)

  46. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Oct 19, 2012 1:01 PM

I like Witten’s attitude. Like many other NFL teams, Dallas has struggled bu they aren’t eliminated yet.

  47. dowhatifeellike says: Oct 19, 2012 1:04 PM

The ‘boys haven’t made the playsoffs in, what, 15 years?

    Baby steps, boys. Baby steps.

  48. dowhatifeellike says: Oct 19, 2012 1:06 PM

I take it back, they won a playoff game in 2009. But before that, they hadn’t won a playoff game since 1996.

  49. eaglesw00t says: Oct 19, 2012 1:09 PM

Did anyone show up to Cowboys practice besides Witten and Jerry Jones today then?

  50. boyshole25 says: Oct 19, 2012 1:11 PM

Can’t stand the cowboys but witten is an amazing player and His talent is being wasted in ego land

Witten has missed only one game in his entire career. And that was because of a broken jaw. So he, if anybody, can say whatever he wants too. First Ballot Hall Of Famer too.

  54. skins4me says: Oct 19, 2012 1:35 PM

Not a big Cowboys fan here, but Whitten have a valid point. If anyone on any team thinks they can’t win they shouldn’t be there!! That being said I don’t think they have a prayer of winning one anytime soon.
