Getty ImagesWith his yearlong suspension on hold and his ailing knee holding up in practice this week, Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma appears ready to play for the first time this season on Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Saints coach Aaron Kromer said today that Vilma had been impressive in practice, and he sounded optimistic that the Saints will make Vilma active on game day.
“Vilma looked good all week,” Kromer said. “We’ve got to get together as a staff still, make sure everyone is on the same page, and decide on game day.”
The Saints have until 4 p.m. Eastern on Saturday to activate Vilma from the physically unable to perform list, where he has spent the first six weeks of the season. All signs point to the Saints doing just that.
The biggest question is whether Vilma will play beyond Sunday. We don’t know how much longer he’ll be able to escape the suspension that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wants to impose, so Vilma should enjoy playing while he can.

Saints need all the help they can get.
I will be at the (1/2 empty)stadium in Tampa to cheer the Saints on.
Who Dat?
Awesome. I’m 100% in his corner. Hope he plays light out.
Hey Vilma I’m a Buc’s fan and I will give you $10,000 to knock out Josh Freeman.
I mean this sincerely, no sarcasm: I hope he doesn’t end up getting injured and carted off. If that were to happen (sarcasm still off), I’m afraid of how many stitches would take to repair by busted gut.
I will be there to see you Vilma. WHODAT!!!!!
Probably they scrape the turd into a plastic Baggie and take him off the field. Obviously he is no Brett Favre when it comes to taking the physical beating.
he’s probably not ready, but is rushing back based on his legal teams advice.
Vilma gonna play like the water boy cause he’s got that Goodell tackling fuel!
It will be the “karma” game. If he gets injured he’s guilty as charged.
Pay yourself 10k to run your head into a concrete wall, then we can be rid of you!
Dude if this guy ends up at the bottom of a pile… I wouldn’t be surprised if someone takes his manhood.
Clearly, Vilma is winning.

!!!! Oh man, this seriously made me Laugh out Loud!!!
Hope he gets what he dished out.
Vilma should play because he certainly didn’t deserve a years suspension. If talking tough in a pregame locker room pep rally is so wrong, then all NFL players should be suspended.
Wouldn’t it be funny if he gets named the Defensive Player of the Week. Goodell would have a panic attack.
Imagine what his fine will be if he has a helmet to helmet hit or something similar.
Enjoy it while it lasts.
Dirty!!
