Anytime a team is focusing on shutting down that one player, there will be others open. Just need to find out who and capitalize, in last night’s game it turned out to be the running backs.

It was hilarious to watch the same play being run 6+ times in the same drive: Running back fakes handoff, runs through the hole, gets ignored and is wide open in the center of the field. Great offensive play calls in the second half.

If Vernon would fight for the ball more Alex could just throw it up for grabs. But Davis needs it right in the bread basket. That’s one of the few flaws in his game he can still improve on. Breese, Brady, Manning, are that good because they trust their receivers and know they’ll fight for the ball.

The middle is wide open everytime we have 5 RB’s keep switching them in and out and dump off those 4 or 5 yard passes and tire out the defense then late in the game throw the bomb up to David or Crabtree or Williams

up to the OC while you’re out running routes? Is one thing when the OC has you blocking all the time.. but when he has you running routes and you still dont get the ball you need to talk to your QB not the OC.

Wake up niners FO.. alex smith will never be a top 10 QB… one good game against the lousy bills D doesnt mean squad..

It is glaringly obvious that 99% of you have never watched Alex and Vernon’s chemistry. He is among the elite for a reason despite the difference in qb’s. Go back and watch the Saints game folks. Alex constantly wings the ball out there in complete anticipation of Vernon getting there. There’s no waiting at all. A few years ago when he took over Gates’ td record for a TE at the time…. he did so with Alex only playing 10 games. Hill had gotten him 1 whopping TD in the previous 6. The problem is you dont throw open a TE when he is doubled down and a safety is over the top. Thats precisely how Rolle got 2 picks last week.

i think alex is a good qb and will prove you guys wrong in the end. most of you guys who are calling him a bum what have you guys accomplish in your life i would say nothing, im sure most of the people here who criticize football players on this site are losers who live in their parents basement that gets a high by criticizing other people. i have never seen a top ten rated qb that gets so much criticism.it does not make sense when someone says in the same sentence he has a noodle arm and then he overthrows people, how can you have a noodle arm but still overthrow someone. you know what he does he win games. btw name one qb who have not seen a wide open receiver. i think he was so surprise to see a wr open all night.

Defenses can focus on Davis because they don’t respect (and shouldn’t) Smith’s ability to throw a deep ball to Crabtree, Moss, or Manningham.

I actually thought Alex was pretty good during the Packers, Lions, and Bills games. Saying his WRs are bad is kind of funny: Crabtree, Manningham, and Moss? I bet Oakland, Jacksonville, NYJ, Titans, etc would kill for that trio

Well, there you go. Davis is NOT getting open. Opponents have discovered his route running in film and are preventing him from getting open. Either he needs new moves or the coaches need new plays to get him open. Davis is a beast and the TE is a huge weapon. Use him more.

it also hurts when your offense doesn’t have option routes and your quarterback needs you to be open BEFORE he throws the ball, instead of anticipating when you will be open.

“Davis said opposing defenses are making it tough for him to get open. “Some of the routes I usually run, they are taking them away,” Davis said. “The [routes] up the sideline, it’s not there. Nothing’s there. When I run my corner routes, the cornerback is dropping to the corner. They are just taking stuff away, some of my explosive routes and stuff.”

Obviously the offensive coordinator isn’t doing a good job of using Moss. Vernon being one of the best tight ends in football should never go without a catch but it starts with Alex and he’s terrible.

Oh you mean like overtime in the NFC Championship game and a fumble away from the Super Bowl? You are wrong. Look I’m a 49ers fan and I realize Smith is just a mediocre QB. Guy is never going to take over games and win it for them. However they can win a SB with him just like other teams have won SB without a good QB. It will be harder for sure.

Last week’s debacle set Smith back 5 years. His confidence is shot and that’s really on the idiotic offensive plan that they had last week. Smith could never get into a rhythm. Everytime he made a positive play, in came Kaepernick to do a goofy college play that everyone knows how to stop. Obviously they’re still reeling as a team. They were fortunate to get the W last night and keep pace in their division as well as the rest of the league.

Nothing against Smith but he will never be a QB that’s going to sling the ball around to 6 different guys and rack up tons of yardage. Davis is the best receiver on the team with very average wide outs and he’s always going attract a lot of attention.

I was surprised that they didn’t make any concerted effort to get him the ball last night. During the game I was about to check other websites to see if he was a surprise inactive and then I noticed No 85 blocking on the line. It was an odd game for him to say the least.

Vernon its because they don’t respect Crabtree. Yes he has been more consistent but he still doesn’t break off big plays. Which means they will focus on you the most followed by Moss and Manningham while giving up the underneath. Roman needs to utilize Randy to stretch things out more
