If it were anyone other than Suggs, Lewis or Reed the Ravens would have gone after money for hurting himself playing basketball. He specifically violated his contract and Bisciotti just sucked it up.

==================================

You don't know what you are talking about do you? The Ravens do not operate that way. It's not like Suggs was skydiving when he got hurt, Bisciotti said he'd take the risk a player get's hurt playing basketball than have a player sitting on the couch all off season.

You can fault Newsome if he didn’t vet his off the field character concerns well that led to the “fall down the stairs”. You take that as a fact like as if there is any strong proof or even credibility that an accident like that happened. If his off the field character concerns are what led to his having that head injury, then that’s on the GM for it is his responsibility to decide what kind of PEOPLE to invest in for his team.

Either way, he still healed up and he didn’t produce, and there’s a reason. Either he’s not a good player, or the coaches let him down, of which Newsome is also responsible for.

No matter how you slice it Newsome is 100% responsible, it is HIS fault this didn’t work out.
_______
That's ridiculous. While it probably applies more in this case, the vast majority of NFL players, to say nothing of young twenty-somethings, drink and party, there's no way to predict a freak accident like being drunk and falling down two flights of stairs.

You could just as easily vet a player's off the field concerns; find out they're a really nice, respectable guy; and have their career ended when a trucker falls asleep at the wheel and T-bones their car on the way to pick up some toilet paper from CVS.

What? All those in-depth interviews and you never learned this player didn't have a limitless supply of toilet paper!!?? C'mon Newsome, do your job!

How well would YOU have fared if you were "properly vetted?" Also, can you define "properly vetting?"
I mean, really, what kind of questions can you ask that will predict that a guy will fall down some stairs?
Besides, how do you measure the mindset of someone who willingly participates in the gladiator
spectacle that the nfl has become? Have we learned nothing from mike tyson? The very thing that made him such a beast in the ring,mde him an a-- outside of the ring. When he was medicted, and "niced up", he. Could no longer fight....
We loved him when he was knockong people out....
To sum this up, we look for ON THE JOB PERFOMANCE FIRST, and HOPE for "character "

You can fault Newsome if he didn't vet his off the field character concerns well that led to the "fall down the stairs". You take that as a fact like as if there is any strong proof or even credibility that an accident like that happened. If his off the field character concerns are what led to his having that head injury, then that's on the GM for it is his responsibility to decide what kind of PEOPLE to invest in for his team.

Either way, he still healed up and he didn't produce, and there's a reason. Either he's not a good player, or the coaches let him down, of which Newsome is also responsible for.

No matter how you slice it Newsome is 100% responsible, it is HIS fault this didn't work out.

Still cannot believe he got D-MVP over Jared Allen what a joke.
=========================================

Because he's the complete outside linebacker who rushes the passer, sets the edge, stuffs the run and can play coverage.

Jared Allen does not.

I'm not a Ravens fan by any means, but Suggs returning is huge for them. With Lewis and Webb done for the year, they really needed Suggs back. Still a playoff team, not sure how far they'll go without Webb. I know Lewis is a motivator and leader, but in my opinion Webb is more important as one of the league's best shut down corners.
