Phil Costa carted off with right leg injury

Dallas center Phil Costa was just carted off the field with an ugly right leg injury, when he was blocked low on a fumble return.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera was waving trainers over the Costa after he went down, following a Miles Austin fumble. Panthers safety Charles Godfrey was flagged for a personal foul on the play.

Costa missed time early with a back injury, but his return coincided with the Cowboys line playing better.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m. ET: Costa will not return with what was announced as a right ankle injury.

On fumble return? really? Penalize/fine players for hits to the head but these low blocks are equally as detrimental. If “player safety” is so important then why isn’t something being done about these plays?

Get your facts straight, Darin. He wasn’t the one blocked low by Godfrey, he tripped on his own man right after the snap.

He actually didn’t get hurt on the block. A player stepped on his ankle. Godfrey didn’t even touch him on that block. They showed it on the replay!
