Redskins don’t make move at punter

The Redskins took a look at several veteran punters late this week because Sav Rocca was dealing with a knee injury.

The team said they’d make a decision about Rocca’s status on Saturday and they opted to stick with him instead of signing any of the players who worked out, a group that included former Steeler Daniel Sepulveda and former Eagle Chas Henry. So Rocca will be on the field against the Giants on Sunday.

If Rocca should aggravate the injury badly enough that he’s forced to leave the game, the Redskins would be stuck with two holes to fill. They’d need someone to punt, obviously, and they’d also need a holder for Kai Forbath on field goals and extra points. One imagines the Redskins felt comfortable enough about Rocca’s health to go into the game with that possibility on the table.

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins also added wide receiver Leonard Hankerson to their injury report on Saturday with an illness. Hankerson is listed as probable and should play, which would work out well for Washington since it looks like Pierre Garçon is still at least another week away from returning from his toe injury.
