After today’s game at Tampa Bay, Joe Vitt takes over as the Saints’ interim head coach, and Aaron Kromer will no longer be the Saints’ interim interim head coach. And Vitt plans to get to work immediately.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Vitt, who was suspended for the first six games as a result of the league’s bounty investigation, will be at the New Orleans airport tonight to greet the Saints when they arrive from Tampa. Vitt will meet with the team at the airport before the players head home.
Vitt has been involved in football at some level every year of his life since childhood, and he told Schefter, “I missed these guys so bad.”
The question is whether Vitt will be greeting a 2-4 team that’s on a winning streak and still has a chance to make a playoff run, or a 1-5 team whose hopes of accomplishing anything this season are close to zero.
