Pelosi ties UFL financial issues to workers’ compensation premiums

As the UFL finally descends into the ashes, hopeful that a phoenix finally will fly out of the financial morass, the owner of the league’s Sacramento franchise claims that the back breaker came from the program aimed at helping guys who have broken their backs while working.

Paul Pelosi, the husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, cited the cost of workers’ compensation premiums as the reason for the league’s temporary (or permanent) demise, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

If that’s really the problem, then the UFL shouldn’t have a team in California, where the workers’ compensation premiums are so high.  But expenses weren’t the problem.  Revenue was the problem.

No one went to the games.  The TV deal with CBS Sports Network reportedly cost the UFL $150,000 per broadcast.  It’s impossible to balance the budget without significant money coming in.

And the rest of the relevant football world asked…”The UFL is still around?” It’s too bad because I was looking for the sequel to HeHateMe to come out of the UFL. Dang. Dreams dashed.

The UFL should follow the lead of every other California company and move to Arizona.

It is unfortunate that workers engaged in a dangerous profession be protected financially from injury.

Too bad there is no one around strong enough to buy up the company and out source the jobs.

I’m sure the UFL would do a lot better financially if it were a bunch of Chinese pre-teens playing with milk cartons for helmets, but whatreyagondo?

Nancy Pelosi has done a wonderful job in California. Our illegal tourism is #1 in the nation!

Shame too I think. The Virginia Destroyers played not 10 minutes from my house, and there were some pretty good games played there with a lot of former pros. Many of them contributed on a Superbowl winning team.

As far as the league folding, well, not hard to have seen it coming. A start up league with 5 teams and 6 games to play going up against the NFL and College ball. Of course no one’s gonna care much about it. So for take two, (if they get one) start it back up in the Spring after the NFL draft when everyone’s itching for a game.

Also, dump the greedy lawyers running the whole thing and get some guys in there that actually know how to run a business…

A vote for Obama is a vote for Nancy Pelosi and for turning the United States into one big California. Awesome! Wait, never mind……

Gotta love Californians. They complain about things like this, record high gas prices, and a state government teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Yet they vote democratic by at least a 2 to 1 margin. It’s the truest example of the definition of insanity. Keep on voting for those lefties Cali, while the rest of America continues to point and laugh at you.
