As the UFL finally descends into the ashes, hopeful that a phoenix finally will fly out of the financial morass, the owner of the league’s Sacramento franchise claims that the back breaker came from the program aimed at helping guys who have broken their backs while working.
Paul Pelosi, the husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, cited the cost of workers’ compensation premiums as the reason for the league’s temporary (or permanent) demise, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
If that’s really the problem, then the UFL shouldn’t have a team in California, where the workers’ compensation premiums are so high. But expenses weren’t the problem. Revenue was the problem.
No one went to the games. The TV deal with CBS Sports Network reportedly cost the UFL $150,000 per broadcast. It’s impossible to balance the budget without significant money coming in.
