Said Bears coach Lovie Smith of QB Jay Cutler getting hit by Lions DT Ndamukong Suh, “That’s football. No one is trying to hurt anyone or anything like that out there. So what is it Brandon..., is your coach an idiot too?

Ah. Claiming that it didn’t break any rules in any way means it was a clean hit is “pretty stupid.”

So, understanding the rules is pretty stupid.

Sound logic.

There's the letter of the law and the spirit of the law -- and while Suh-er's hit may have passed legal muster, according to the letter of the NFL law, the SPIRIT of the laws (protect players/QBs, prevent dangerous and unsportsmanlike hits) was clearly in violation.

Sure, I get it - people have blood lust and love to see the big hits and think QBs are too protected.

But anyone who saw that hit and isn't blinded by their own stark raving bias could tell: Suh was trying end Cutler's season, if not his career.

And it's not the first time we've seen him act like that (and then go into his big phony damage control mode).

In short, Marshall is right. AGAIN.

Suh followers make me laugh. First you criticize Marshall because you cant defend your boy because his intent is to permanantly hurt someone everytime he hits them. Marshall at least admits he has had personal off the field problems and is working on becoming a productive citizen.

Lets not forget a couple weeks ago when Suh backed into another man's car and then fled the scene. The poor guy calls the cops and the cop tell him to meet him at the Lion's facility. What happens next, well this is a shocker, Suh comes out of the facility and A) threatens the guy and B) tells him to leave or else.

Im sorry, I just dont see this as normal behavior on any level. Say what you want about Marshall, Suh is an absolute loose cannon and its only a matter of time before he hurts someone permanent. Get a grip Lion fans, this guys days are numbered if he doesnt address his issues. His college teammates dont even like him because he has anger and violence issues.

I cannot believe this guy is still whining.. Coming from a guy who beats up on girls…. Suh creamed Cutler and every one but Bears fans loved it. Marshal needs to quit whining. I don’t remember Marshall crying like this in Denver. It must be a Chicago cultural thing… Go Lions.. Suh is a Gladiator!!!!!

Marshall knows where his bread is buttered, there is a bit of a drop off between Cutler and Campbell. Suh's hit was legal but, the intent was questionable and that is what makes most people stop and take pause. I think Detroit's defense could be a little more disciplined they only need to look across the line at Chicago's Defense. Stop celebrating big hits, and be a little more consistent, Suh's hit was a highlight reel moment. But what was the final score?

I agree that Brandon Marshall is flat out wrong in declaring the hit illegal. It was a legal play. But it does sicken me to see defenders make plays like that. It's immoral. The reason it's going to continue to happen, for the next few years at least, is because just like me, it doesn't sicken me enough to stop watching. However, my impression has been that the trend is that anything the owners see as putting their precious QBs in jeopardy will cause them to change the rules. It could be that at some point the rule will become a general "intent to injure" instead of the specific "hit to the head" or "going for the feat" etc.

Hard to take a guy serious that consistently does the wrong thing off the field.

At least Suh doesn't hit women or "trip on McDonalds bags and fall into TVs".

Get over the hit, it was legal and frankly impressive. This is a violent game and that hit is likely the top of the line and anymore would likely be crossing the line.

Give Suh credit, I guess once you've crossed the line enough that you can start recognizing the line and walking it without crossing it.
