Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant admits he made a bad decision returning a punt that he should have let go in Carolina.
Late in the third quarter, when a Panthers punt went deep into Cowboys territory, Bryant reached back to catch the ball and didn’t secure it, nearly fumbling on his return before eventually being tackled for a three-yard loss at the 12-yard line. Bryant acknowledged afterward that he should have just let it go, and it might have rolled into the end zone.
“It was a bad decision,” Bryant said. “That was a bad decision on me. I should have let that one go in the end zone. I told coach I didn’t know where I was at on the field. It was a bad play. I felt like all you can do from that is just learn from it and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Bryant was ineffective Sunday, with just two catches for 14 yards, but he said afterward that the groin injury that had him questionable on the injury report wasn’t affecting him. It was just a bad game on offense, and a bad decision on the punt return.
