I doubt it, because he’s about to make millions as a stud NFL corner. Is DeMarcus Ware mad because Auburn, his hometown college, didn’t recruit him as heavily as the much smaller Troy University? Nah, I’m willing to bet he’s cool with it at this point.

1. It is illegal. Just as it goes for offensive linemen; they must let the player go when they turn. Smith holds, while tackles and guards are pulling or kicking out. Those are penalties. Keith Hamilton got called on an ESOTERIC one in Super Bowl XXXV, which killed what little chance the Giants had to win that game by wiping out a Pick 6 by Jessie Armstead. What Smith does is EGREGIOUS compared to that, and he never gets called for it.

2. The assertion was made with two games of tape from last season (and likely other game film from other opponents) FULL of Smith doing it 10-15 times per game and never once getting flagged for it, often blowing up running plays because linemen can’t get a hat on a guy as a result.

3. The very game that this was brought to light, NYG vs. SF, Aikman — predictably as he would have — says that “I dunno that Justin Smith does that”, while they CATCH HIM ON REPLAY HOLDING BEATTY AND BOOTHE just as Aikman chuckles and lies about it.

But Forty Whiner fans still think everyone else is guilty of the world, but everything they do is fair and within the rules. Anthony Davis, Alex Boone and Joe Staley get away with more holding than any other linemen in FOOTBALL. And that includes Patriots and Cowboys linemen, who are the worst offenders on the film that I’ve watched over the past 5-6 years.

All linemen hold. Both offense and defense. Thats a fact. The penalty is when the other guy is trying to get away, and holding him is the only thing keeping him with you. Being physical up front with guys and forcing their whole body back is called blocking, its what the line’s job is. Get your facts straight.

You’re on the money. And Gilbride’s comment was unsolicited while Harbaugh’s was in response to a question the day after the game. He had some questions and sent a tape to the NFL . . . as NFL teams do EVERY week. I’m guessing he’ll add this subject matter to the no comment category in the future.
