Saints fan finagles priceless photo with Goodell

original

Monday night’s SiriusXM town hall with Commissioner Roger Goodell included a photo opportunity for those who attended the event.

One of the folks present was a Saints fan.  A zealous Saints fan.  Via Deadspin, the fan found a way to pose for the picture while wearing a shirt that says “Free Sean Payton.”

He kept the message concealed with a football each attendee received until the time came for the camera to engage.

Then again, there’s also a chance it was photoshopped.

Either way, well done.

UPDATE 8:46 a.m. ET, 10/25/12:  It’s not photoshopped.  We’ve seen the email from SiriusXM to the fan forwarding the photo.

If Roger Goodell was half as smart as he thinks he is, this would never have happened.

I understand Gregg Williams situation, but I REALLY doubt Sean Payton had much to do with it. I honestly hate the guy, but I don’t believe for a minute he knew about the pay-to-injure program. I feel it was him turning a blind-eye at worse.

Unfortunately we live in a world where money is important enough to make people have to pretend to not notice things. The guy has a family, and you gotta do what you gotta do. In his case, it was ignoring particular details about the defensive coordinator.

    “Free Sean Peyton.”
    Why?
    Is he in jail?
I thought he already was free.
The same lunkheads who wear these shirts are probably the same ones who wouldn’t take responsibility if caught speeding or with a parking ticket.

That Saint fan is purposely not smiling so he can keep his tooth hidden.

  15. FinFan68 says: Oct 24, 2012 10:48 PM

Free Sean Payton? I didn’t realize he was in jail. Another nuance many of their fan base does not quite understand?

You think Goodell cares? He put down the law and some chinless Saints fans’ shirt won’t change that anytime soon.

And by the way I have all my teeth and a full head of hair that invitation I made packmanfan it’s an offer to all you SAINTS haters, come on down and we can discuss your lack of humanity.

  21. contra74 says: Oct 25, 2012 12:40 AM

Goodell later fined that man 2 paychecks.

  22. mdd913 says: Oct 25, 2012 1:10 AM

Not photoshopped. The guy had a long thread on a prominent Saints message board and he called his shot a few days beforehand.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen….and anybody who says otherwise is nothing but a stupid hater.

  23. trevor123698 says: Oct 25, 2012 1:45 AM

“I don’t believe for a minute he knew about the pay-to-injure program. ”

What do you not understand about this. No pay-to-injure program has ever existed in the NFL. It is impossible to go out and try to injure someone. If someone did injure someone on purpose it would be extremely obvious.

  24. NakedCowboy! says: Oct 25, 2012 3:44 AM

Free Sean Payton? sure… while at it… free LT…

What I am mad about is how poorly this whole thing was handled… this clearly happened but no coherent evidence was released… the suspensions given to players were struck down by court… commis should be fired for incompetence… and they need to make examples of people involved in that bounty scandal…
i hate that players like brees act in the media that saints are being persecuted for nothing… provide evidence and screw them…

  25. gammynomnom says: Oct 25, 2012 4:01 AM

Actually this pic just make Roger look good. He’s like, “dude, I put the smackdown on your cheating team and if you want to wear a dumb shirt, wear it, I don’t care. You’re probably a poor swamp person without a pot to pee in and you are upset about a millionaire like Sean who wouldn’t cross the street to spit in your hair. Rave on, go getter!”

There’s no way he “tricked” Roger into the photo op. You could not hide those letters with a football. Roger just is all ” aint care” And good for him bubblehead.

  26. dannymac17 says: Oct 25, 2012 4:05 AM

why are Saints fans so used to saying who dat?

is it cause most of their fans mothers point out their new BFs so the baby is eventually like “who dat?”

I honestly can not believe that there are still morons out there that think the Saints had a pay-to-injure program in this day and age in the NFL and nobody knew about it until the NFL blew the whistle.

Are we that stupid to not notice such a program while it was happening? Wouldn’t such a thing be BLATANTLY OBVIOUS to every single person watching the games?

And yet, statistics show us that the Saints injured the second least amount of players in this time frame.

W….T…..F…… some of you guys just gulp down whatever the NFL tells you happened. It’s mind boggling how some people still believe this **** that Goodell is trying to sell on the eve of a multi billion dollar pending lawsuit.

    This is a Viking fan.

He looks like a real classy guy.

    SMH.

  29. harryglyphics says: Oct 25, 2012 6:25 AM

It’s amazing. Everyone continues to miss the point.
“Bountygate” is not about incentives to injure another player any more than Michael Vick was about being humane to animals.
It’s about the money–and where the money came from.
If Michael Vick had been AT a dogfight, he might’ve been slapped on the wrist and suggested to keep a lower profile. The fact that he was bankrolling gambling on dogfights was his crime.
If the money for the “bounties” had come strictly from the players, it would not have been such a big issue. The fact that money came from an outside source (Mike Ornstein, twice convicted for crimes against the NFL) was the problem.

  30. gtodriver says: Oct 25, 2012 6:54 AM

Another prime example of how classless the Saints organization and their fans are.

I never had a desire to go to New Orleans before this scandal went public. After watching the actions/reactions of the players and fans – I have even less of a desire to visit the area.

  31. seenoland54 says: Oct 25, 2012 7:15 AM

No need to hide the shirt with the ball, good ell made HIS point…”I said I’d pose for a picture with whoever wanted one and I’ll keep my word, now take a little lesson in honor back to that Big Easy and spread it around”

  32. kellij666 says: Oct 25, 2012 7:43 AM

I love it, way to go. you managed to make goodell look dumber than dumb. as for gtodriver, we here in new orleans would rather you didn’t come and visit our fine city. we don’t need people like you here anyway. as for being classless, you have made your own point by posting. you wouldn’t visit a city because of it’s football team, what a fool. but hey, keep on posting, cuz we here in the big easy enjoy the us against the world mentality. it pulls us together. thank you for that…. who dat baby!!!!

You’re talking about the guy who was in jail and broke when he sent his joke e-mails ?? : D

  34. 49erstim says: Oct 25, 2012 8:19 AM

I really just wanted to comment on the photo…which is pretty funny BTW, but this ongoing discussion of the bounty scandal just won’t go away. Nobody is going to be swayed this late in the game guys so calling people “stupid” or the ever-so popular “hater” is a waste of time.

Everybody remember the other big “scandal” of the offseason? That whole salary cap violation thing against Dallas and Washington? Good…okay. Remember when Jerrah and Snyder sat on their hands and didn’t fight it? You don’t? Ohhhh thats because they fought something they felt was unjust. Where is Benson? Is HE fighting this great injustice against his team? NOPE. Case closed.

Look guys…. loyalty is a trait I admire and I would never suggest abandoning your team, but you should let this thing go….afterall…your owner did a long time ago.

  35. bathroomben7 says: Oct 25, 2012 8:19 AM

You all know “Who Dat Nation” didn’t exist before they won a Super Bowl.* Don’t tear your outside ACL jumping off that bandwaggon when they go 4-12 this year.

  36. saintsfan1981 says: Oct 25, 2012 8:41 AM

Lol @ all the saints hate! But let me ask you something. If you hate this team and its fans so much, and are sick of reading about goodell gate,WHY DID YOU READ IT?!? And then you felt the need to comment about how sick of it you are? But then,I guess it does get pretty boring living in your moms basement.

  37. dmatt777 says: Oct 25, 2012 8:49 AM

Classless, I’ve heard that word slung a lot on this site.Wow!!!! Which one of You, would NOT stand for what he or she believes is RIGHT?
THAT is the very definition of a CLASSIC failure.
It is interesting to me you people are not even SMART ENOUGH TO REASON.God help us if ANY ONE OF YOU SELF RIGHTEOUS YACKETY YACKS was running anything.
You folks are ignorance at its Finest.
    Keep pushing SAINTS,Keep Pushing.

Some of you seem to have really taken this personally on behalf of Roger. And people’s comments about a person’s looks are real high-character there. Says a lot about you.

  39. whatigot8 says: Oct 25, 2012 9:13 AM

Gto we won’t miss you. Make wherever you live that much more miserable.

To whoever, Benson is fighting this. He has had multiple face to face meetings with the commissioner. He can’t put a dog in the fight until the appeals and court hearings are done.

Someone said something about honor and Goodell. If you truly felt like you didnt do something and were being wrongfully accused with your name and earning power being damaged forever, you’d just sit and take it? So it seems like honor only works for you when you want it to, cool.

It rolls off the tongue really easy for people on here to say what they’d do and how they feel, when these guys can lose as much money as most of the people who post here make in a decade. But yeah, let’s just believe Roger, even though his two key witnesses can’t even agree on what happened… Right.

  40. sjam613 says: Oct 25, 2012 10:11 AM

I can confirm that shirt is legitimate as I was one of the members in attendance. He had it under a Saints jersey and he showed it to us prior to going into the room to meet Commissioner Goodell.

  41. doubleogator says: Oct 25, 2012 10:25 AM

Gotta Love it….and by the way all of you losers that think it’s cool to belittle fans in New Orleans can kiss my a–do you ever notice all of the other fans and what they look like? If not think back to the NFL draft and watch Jets fans, or the people in DC with no shirt on in 28 degree weather…

  42. ilovefoolsball says: Oct 25, 2012 5:24 PM

HAHA! Way to stick it to ‘em!
It’s funny how many people go out of their way to comment on Saints stories, it’s like they’re obsessed.
If you’re tired of hearing about something you can usually avoid it pretty easily, just don’t click.

The people who are complaining about hearing more bounty news are the same people who say how much they hate their ex-girlfriend yet they find any little reason to get mad at her and contact her.

Dude just get over it and pay attention to your own life and don’t give me this garbage like you won’t visit New Orleans because of the bounty “scandal” because that’s just weak, we all know you can’t afford the plane ticket.
