Saints running back Chris Ivory is buried on a crowded depth chart in New Orleans and has yet to play in a game this season, and he’s getting frustrated about that. But the Saints say his frustration won’t result in a ticket out of town.
“Deep down, I would have to say, yes, I’m frustrated,” Ivory told WWL Radio. “It’s a little frustrating to just kind of sit back. I just feel like my worth is more than that, than just, you know, sitting back on the side.”
Ivory then hinted that a trade was possible, although he said the Saints hadn’t told him anything about that.
“I don’t really get too much communication from them, they don’t communicate with me,” Ivory said. “But, that’s where I stand, just waiting and being patient. And I do understand the deadline of this trade is at the end of this month. . . . We’ll see what happens.”
Saints coach Joe Vitt, however, made clear that there are no plans to trade Ivory. At his press conference today, Vitt said, “Chris ain’t going nowhere.”
Ivory played well in limited action in his first two seasons, 2010 and 2011, carrying 216 times for 1,090 yards and six touchdowns. But this season the Saints have gone with a three-man running back committee consisting of Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles, and Ivory has been the odd man out. Vitt’s promise that Ivory isn’t going anywhere may mean no trade is coming, but it doesn’t mean Ivory will get off the bench.
