The Patriots’ plan to go all-tight end, all-the-time is getting closer to reality.

Visanthe Shiancoe, who went on IR-designated for return in Week One, returned to the practice field this week.

I’m excited,” Shiancoe said, via Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. “I’m excited to get out there, but I’ll be even more excited to play. So I can’t wait for that.”

He’s not eligible to take the field until after the Patriots’ bye week, but practiced in shells yesterday, his first work in any degree of pads since a hamstring injury in July.

The Patriots gave him a $1.2 million deal, including a $400,000 bonus, and would like to get some degree of return on that investment.

  1. People gave Chad Johnson plenty of flack and rightfully so. Why are we not talking about how Brandon Lloyd is looking like a bust as well? New England’s offense is dink and dunk with no explosive element out wide just like last year.

  2. Guess that means the end for Hoomawanui…Would have been nice to have Shiancoe back before the bye so Hernandez could rest on his ankle a little bit more but will be nice just to have another pass-catching TE on the field for the first game after the bye

Lloyd is on pace for 80 catches and 903 yards. What the holy hell are you talking about?

  4. Lloyd has 35 catches for 407 yds and a TD. He almost broke himself trying to catch a pass from Brady in the seahawks game. I don’t think it’s all on him. He has made some nice catches.
