Bart Scott only played nine snaps last week, but he might play none Sunday.
The Jets linebacker hasn’t practiced this week because of a toe injury, and seemed to realize his streak of 119 straight games might come to an end.
“If we have to shut it down, we shut it down,” Scott said, via Jane McManus of ESPNNewYork.com.
That puts the fifth-longest streak among active players in jeopardy.
“Normally I’d like to keep Bart out there, but if he can’t change direction in space like he normally can, then we’ve got to do what we think’s best for the football team,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “But if Bart’s healthy, Bart’ll be out there.”
His pain tolerance isn’t the issue, his effectiveness is. The Jets have tried to work with him, customizing a shoe to provide more padding. But Ryan admitted he might make the decision for his long-time linebacker.
“That injury is a tough one,” Ryan said. “The toe injury — that could have kept him out the last three weeks, it really could’ve. But he’s that kind of guy, he’s going to push all the way. And sometimes we got to look at it, too.
“Maybe if it’s up to Bart you know he’s going to play, maybe we need to look at it and say, ‘You know, with Bart we’ll see how it goes, how it progresses.’”
That sounds like someone’s made up their mind.
