Geez! You can fault A.J. Smith for other things, but this is way off base, and you obviously have an axe to grind. But EVERY team in the NFL, ALL OF THEM, make personnel decisions based upon salary and cap implications. Trying to hang this on Smith like it’s just him is just silly.

So much questionable trading over the recent years, one thing hasn’t changed, incompetent management and ownership.

All I can remember are the kicks he made to help get us into the playoffs. Anybody remember what happened last time we axed a good kicker (John Carney)? Do the names Wade Richey and Steve Christie ring a bell? Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes. Although Novak’s pct. of 79.4% in his one full season is not stellar (ranked 22nd in league), certainly well below what we’ve come to expect from Nate, it IS better than Richie/Christie. I guess that’s satisfactory to most of you.

You’re not allowed to use injured reserve to avoid paying out the contract signed by the team.

The player isn’t demanding special treatment. He is asking the team to follow the rules and release him, rather than cheat and stash him on IR until the waivers deadline.

The Chargers will be lucky if they don’t lose a draft pick over this.

Players get healthy on IR all the time that’s the point. The rules don’t say that you have to cut him to make sure he gets paid twice. If he told the Chargers to cut him and he’ll sign something saying they can keep the 1.2 million I bet they’d kick his ass to the curb. LaVar Arrington wanted out of Washington without going to waivers so he gave the Redskins a lot of Money back for his release. HaHa, “kick to the Curb”, I love it.

Kadeing is a heck of a kicker but he is always hurt and out. The Chargers have to carry a backup kicker because he is so fragile. They need a reciever more than they do a backup kicker. Somebody will get one heck of a kicker. He’ll have teams lined up to get his talent.

OK clueless types, as an Iowa fan I have fond memories of a well used Nate. He was an all state linebacker and kicker. I remember him blowing up returners as a college player and in the pro’s. Plus he can do a wicked fake and pass….

He was injured when they put him on injured reserve so it’s not really stashing him. They don’t have to release him at all if they don’t want to. He ought to just shut his mouth and consider it lucky they will release him off IR at all

This isn’t Smith or Kaeding fault.

Since it hasn’t happened I’m assuming Kaeding can’t bypass the 1.2 which seems like an easy answer.

It’s the fault of the league and players association for not setting it up so that a player can buy his way out of a bad situation.
