Gustav was the last storm I endured in Baton Rouge.

The winds didn’t get a whole lot more than 45mph but were sustained at that level for hours and was more than enough to do a lot of damage to trees and power lines. The flooding wasn’t that bad.

In the middle fifties, the remnants of a storm came into Pennsylvania and dumped a lot of rain and then did the same over Connecticut. There was severe flooding in the Housatonic River valley.

It doesn’t have to be a hurricane to do serious damage.

I don’t understand why they don’t push the games up one hour. An hour can make a huge difference for fans. An with one game on CBS and one game on FOX, the only victim in that decision is the pregame shows.

Seems like the heart of the storm is over the ocean still on Sunday. Philly may be closer to it then the Meadowlands at game time.
So traveling to and from the game and playing it will be in the edges of the storm. Strong winds and rain, but not in a 80 MPH hurricane.
No need to postpone anything. If a season ticket holder doen’t feel safe, he should make the chioce to stay home on his own. Bad weather in open air stadiums is a measure of risk. You may have tickets to a game you don’t want to go to due to the weather.
Hurricanes happen this time of year. Blizzards happen later in the season. Monsoon type rain storms can happen any time. It’s the way it is and we all know it. No one should be surprised here.

Any bad weather should help the Dolphins. Sanchez can hardly throw the ball under perfect conditions and if its extra windy… add about 3 picks to his totals. Everyone knows the jets can’t run on the Fins tough D.

Football is supposed to be played in mud. It used to be players turned a lot of the league’s fields into mud during a dry game. Back when they used real grass.

Make no mistake, weather adds an interesting element to football and should remain part of the game. But there are special circumstances that need to be accounted for and this may be one of them. That game was in Pittsburgh and was because they had re-sodded the field overtop of other sod, then the storm soaked the sod.

Those conditions were more about the field than the conditions.

People on the east coast, please take this storm seriously, as it expected to have 80 MPH winds when it hits, complicated by a noreaster that also exists from the mid west. Its set to do some damage, and people will lose power. Do yourself a favor and be prepared.

Btw, I don’t want to see a game in these conditions.
I do think the bad part is Monday, not Sunday.

Steelers-Dolphins game featuring the infamous lawn dart punt was played in Pittsburgh at Heinz field, not Miami. Rain was only part of the problem in that game. Four high school championship games were played on the field in the days leading up to the Monday night game
(possibly a Pitt U game too). The field was a complete mud pit, so the grounds crew laid new sod over the mud and it never had a chance to attach as it rained all weekend. By kickoff, the field was a marsh. Coaches were running onto the field and trying to fix giant chunks of turf during timeouts.

I will never forget watching that punt stick in the ground, it was both unbelievable and hilarious.
