PFT Live: Vikings talk with Paul Allen

Christian Ponder AP

We wrap up another week with a closer look at Thursday night’s loser on Friday’s edition of PFT Live.

Paul Allen of KFAN will join Mike Florio to talk about the Vikings’ 36-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday night at the Metrodome. The play of quarterback Christian Ponder is sure to be a topic of conversation after another erratic performance from the second-year starter. We’ll also find out if Allen thinks the Vikes will be able to use their 5-3 first half as a springboard to the playoffs this year.

Florio will also look ahead to the rest of this week’s matchups and touch on the biggest stories to keep in mind as Week Eight unfolds around the United States (and United Kingdom) this weekend.

You can watch it all live at noon ET.

    @lbpackfan:

Ha. I get it. I love PA. He’s the best.

I’m surprised he was able to get out of bed this morning.

    Playoffs? Did someone mention playoffs?

This is easily the worst 5 win team in the league. Ponder is a complete joke. He is a great 3-7 yard pass QB with great accuracy. If dink and dunk won a lot of games, he would be one of the best. When they play teams where they need to score a lot of points or come from behind, forget about it.

Why do you even Ponder passing?

Ask him why his team is so terrible.

How great… The Vikings biggest homer and the worldest great football mind… just ask him!

  9. ddjesus says: Oct 26, 2012 12:31 PM

I love his calls. They make epic Vikings futility that much more memorable. See week 17, 2003, and 2009 nfc championship game.

    _________

Apparently you haven’t been watching lately because he’s less than 50% on 3-yard passes.

Where was the Tampa Team I saw last night when I had them Vs New Orleans last week?

Can you say “CHOKED” LAST WEEK.

  13. uwsptke says: Oct 26, 2012 12:47 PM

I mean, you could take a knee and try a 56 yard field goal!!! This is not Detroit, man! This is the SUPER BOWL!!!!

  14. funshipm174 says: Oct 26, 2012 12:57 PM

The problem is the depth drops off a lot after Harvin and Peterson and they need to find someone Via FA to spread the field because Simpson isn’t cutting it. Lets not forget as the NFL crew stated this is a team a year or two away. Defense is very young and only a couple of players away.

It just goes to show you when an offense can produce a big lead like Green Bay did last year, you can even make their Defense look good.

Ponder is not progressing the way he should be is obvious.

Christan Ponder is whack how could you miss 1 yard passes by so much

  16. thepvyharvin says: Oct 26, 2012 1:08 PM

Paul Allen is the best in the business,,, the whole experience of being a Viking Homer wouldn’t be the same without him!

  17. dabearzzz630 says: Oct 26, 2012 1:13 PM

Christian Ponder is holding the team back from making a playoff run this year. He’s been average at best. Riding on the back of Peterson and throwing bubble screens to Harvin can only get you so far. If Ponder showed even a little glimpse of being good the Vikes would be ok but he’s played very mediocre. Plus the Vikes really needed that game. The schedule from here on out is possibly one the toughest in the NFL.

His radio station does a preposterous statement tourney every year. He has his own bracket.

  19. thetokyosandblaster says: Oct 26, 2012 1:29 PM

Did the Vikings lose last night?

Weird. So much talk of how the Vikings would destroy the bucs.

Oddly, I haven’t seem contra or thepvyharvin all day.

Perhaps they’re just too ashamed to show their faces.

  20. briggsweatbird says: Oct 26, 2012 1:33 PM

Please. No. You may as well have a “rube” fan be the team announcer. Vikes are “we” in his vocabulary. The worst homer announcer in sports. Very embarrassing. Seriously, I have to turn off the radio when I hear him do games because I am so embarrassed for him.

Carl, why don’t you go ask him? He is just down the hall from you. In fact, aren’t you his boss?

  22. vikesfansteve says: Oct 26, 2012 1:43 PM

Why do the Vikings not activate Wright?

Ponder has had a tough run but he isn’t the repeatedly missing blocking assignments.

The defense just couldn’t stop the 3rd down conversion. Same exact story every year for the Vikings.

Not worried because the Vikings have 10 days to prepare for the Seahawks and then a big home game against Detroit. 6-4 or 7-3. Then they get their bye and have 2 weeks to prepare for the Bears. Even if they loose in Chicago they get another game 2 weeks later. They will win that.

They still have a good chance to make a run at the playoffs.

They always struggle against Tampa Bay and they are atrocious at night and in prime time.

The Vikings can still win 10 games.

    Wow Carl, clever….

  24. vavikingfan says: Oct 26, 2012 2:28 PM

I don’t understand why Ponder wasn’t pulled and Joe Webb given a chance. Defenses have figured Ponder out , but the Vikings run defense was terrible the first half……Musgrave’s play calling is also strange….

  25. waltmink says: Oct 26, 2012 2:55 PM

Vikesfansteve: While I can appreciate your enthusiasm, I think it may be blinding you to the truth? There is NO WAY this team is gonna win 5 more games and even if, by some outside chance they would make it to post season (which will never happen) they’d get crushed immediately.
They’re doomed to be subpar until they get a much better QB.

It is funny that they have a quarterback who’s name is included in one of the most memorable radio calls in Vikings history.

  27. jimmysee says: Oct 26, 2012 3:40 PM

    The answer here is obvious.

The Vikings *will* trade with the Seahawks to get Matt Flynn.

The Vikings and especially their fans have wet dreams all the time about ex-Packers.

    Seriously.

jimmysee, I’m ashamed that I thumbs upped your Brett Goode comments.
