After giving up 36 points in a loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday night, the Vikings’ defensive ends were at a loss for answers. Other than acknowledging that the Bucs had just physically whipped them.

“Bottom line is they did a good job of pretty much beating our brains in,” Vikings defensive end Brian Robison said after the game.

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen said it was a different part of the anatomy that the Bucs beat.

“Hats off to them, they came in here and kicked our butts,” Allen said. “Just top to bottom, I don’t know if we overlooked them or not, but it’s an embarrassing game for us.”

Allen, who was bloodied in a battle with Buccaneers tackle Donald Penn, said he thought that when he recorded a sack after that scuffle, the momentum was on the Vikings’ side. But that was really the only moment in the game when it looked like the Vikings might make it close: The Vikings were right, this was a butt-kicking and a brain-beating.
